this welder is local and he says the motor starts and runs the welder just wont work... would it be an easy fix maybe or what could it be... hes asking 200 dollars.
Reply:A running and working Roughneck 2E is a handy little unit but I personally wouldn't pay $200 for a non working one. For me, no more than half that - tops. And then only if you're ready to chalk it up if it turns out to be an unavailable hard part that's to blame.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I'm also very leery of these kind of "deals". Whether they'll admit it or not most of the time someone has already at least tried to find out what's wrong with it and discovered that it's a white elephant and are just looking to dump it and make it someone else's problem. Some machines are often worth rebuilding (SA 200s, 250s etc) as parts are easy to find and they're fairly simple machines. Most are not worth the time and expense because when you get done with it you could have bought one in running condition and not spent the time fooling with it.Could it be something simple and cheap? Sure could but it's a big gamble.I'd offer him a hundred bucks as the other poster said, then if it's a junker you could probably sell off the engine and make a few bucks. |
