machinists......carbide insert help?

I have 3 packages of carbide inserts I got when a plant I was working at was closing.I would like to use them in my lathe and don't know what toolhoders to look for (enco,ebay etc.) Does anyone know what toolholders these insertswill fit?Labels on packages are worn but number appear to be tpgt and tpgm 2150,(kennametal)Insert is triangular,.420 wide ,.102 thick,with .115 hole(approx.).  I just noticed number printed on insert-kc 730.Thanks for any help you can give.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:the kc730 is the grade... the tpgt and the tpgm is the style or type, each letter designates a value or dimension of the insertif i remember correct the 2150 will be the series number, such as 21.50 think that has to do with the size you should be able to call a tool supplier or look on the internet for a tgpt or tpgm style or series holder.. i would suggest MSC probably, maybe www.shars.com you might also look at boring bars, seems like older inserts were turning and boring specific.Last edited by brucer; 07-28-2011 at 09:29 AM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Another option is to make your own holder that uses those inserts, even if you can't find a holder commercially.HSM or PM would be a good place to start searching.Andrew
Reply:you may want to take the inserts to your local tool supply outlet. They could have the proper holder in stock or order one for you.
Reply:TPGT--T= Triangular-P=11degree relief angle-G=.001" tolerance on inscribed circle-T=Type;hole ,one countersink, chip groove on one rake face  TPGM--as above but with hole ,  chip groove on one rake surface The numbers are the size of the inscribed circle in eighths, the thickness in sixteenths  and the radius of the nose in sixtyfourths Tool holders will run from $30 for import to $75+for made in USA.
