Im going to buy one. The problem is i hit the  Amazon link which Evolution is selling through and it says abrasive.but if you look at the description it says No Sparks....http://www.amazon.com/Evolution-Abra...1724036&sr=1-1???So is it abrasive or Cold?
Reply:Well, that's a PICTURE of the cold saw but who knows if the picture is right?  I've had one for a few months now and absolutely love it.  Less space than a band saw and 50x faster than a 4.5 grinder w/ a cutoff wheel.  Still somewhat messy but it's local (not floating around your shop) and some sparks but no post cut cleanup unless you bevel the edges and fairly accurate cuts.  Way more accurate than a cutoff wheel....  You'll like it.Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:All the "rage" models use a carbide blade, not an abrasive. There's no coolant, and it can still throw some good sparks.  So I guess Amazon is wrong on both counts.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:The ones I have seen down here are coldcut saws, last week I bought one of their 14" blades (84.00)for my Milwaukee cold cut saw....still working pretty good.
Reply:K im going to buy it was just worried about it showing up here with an abrasive blade!
Reply:Good timing on your question,  I just happened to meet up with (Ed) Broccoli1 this morning and he recently bought the Evo sliding miter saw.  I have the Evo 355 aka 14" chop saw myself.  Ed was saying he did not care too much for the clamping mechanism of the miter saw and it seemed to throw quite a bit of debris around when cutting thus if he did it again he would get the 14/15" chop saw.   I love mine.  you will have virtually no sparks on a new blade and as it wears and gets dull you will see more sparks, Unless you are cutting Aluminum   Blade speed on the chop saw is 1350 rpm as opposed to the miter which is 2500 and probably designed to be more of a multi purpose saw. the torque is very high on my saw and very little if and slow down during most cutting.   always clamp your stuff when cutting.  trying to freehand cut is a good way to break teeth off the blade (speaking from experience).   I have a local shop that will sharpen the blades for $40 plus $5 per broken tooth.     Oh $84 is a great price for the 14 inch blade by the wayI believe this is the current equivalent of what I have http://www.amazon.com/Evolution14-TC...725599&sr=1-17 Also if you get the Rage multipurpose I would recommend buying the dedicated steel blade when replacement time comes aroundLast edited by soutthpaw; 07-26-2011 at 08:31 PM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:That looks like a pretty good blade
Reply:This one throws sheite everywhere! It does make quick work for Mitre cuts but as Southpaw mentioned not what I expected and would rather have the 14" Cut Off saw.Maybe next yearEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:i have the Steel max 14" cut off saw and the 7" Evo circular saw and have virtually retired my abrasive saws and my band saw. i bought a new 14" Evolution blade to replace my Steel max blade i was having sharpened ($24.50 that included 2 teeth replaced) and was not impressed with the burrs it was leaving that i had to grind off on .125 x 1.5" square tube. i had a hunch, so i cut a piece of 3/8" x 3" sq. tube to see if it would set the teeth. presto no more burrs on the thin stuff. can't say it will work every time for every blade but it did a great job on this blade.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:I'll throw a request out again that I've made in the past. If anyone with a dry cut saw can cut some solid round bar, 1/4" and 1/2", I'd love to know the result. All the video's show tube being cut. I'd like to see the speed on the round solid mentioned. I can slam an abrasive blade through 1/4 and 1/2 pretty quick and don't need to clamp so feed is instant too. One concern is the 1/4 getting caught between teeth and busting them off.I know what your talking about though. Seen the same thing on websites. List one thing and the pic is another. I usually inform them that I won't be buying as I don't trust there ability to deliver if they can get the image right! 200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:i don't recall cutting any 1/4" round stock with my Steel max as it is something i don't have much use for but i have cut some 3/8" and tons of other round stock up to 2" including threaded stock. you are no doubt correct in thinking 1/4" might reek havoc on a carbide blade but at the same time while you are trying to burn down the shop melting 1" round stock with an abrasive blade the carbide will be cutting many times faster. then factor in the cost and time it takes to change 40-50+ abrasive blades and you would normally still be going strong with 1 carbide blade.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw

Reply:I have cut pencil rod on both my dry saw and a cold saw and you do want to clamp both sides are you could break the blade like the one guy did at the place i worked with the cold sawThe boss was not impressed cold saw blades are expensive as are cold saws periodYou can cut pencil rod with a set of bolt cutters and save your bladeBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:So i got the saw, its Epic. Holy crap, this thing cuts immensely better than my band saw. And its a lot faster!

Reply:you know your operation best Bert and what works best. i have used abrasive saws for 40 years and still keep my Rigid 14" close at hand. like you i have the cold saw mounted on a dedicated stand in the shop. the rigid is on the shop floor next to the door so if i want to do any cutting outside it's handy. i tried Dewalt blades one time and to this day my mainstay blades and grinding disks are sait's or metabo's. there are probably better ones but i buy most everything local and both lws's carry them.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:I like mine, bought it a few months ago for one saw to do it all as I just bought my first house.I have to say though, the clamping system sucks.
Reply:I have had my dewalt for years now, and have gone through stacks of blades and cut miles of steel with it. I am working on some railing right now. Each rail panel is made up of 64 pieces of 1/2'' HR steel. Yesterday and today I made somewhere in the neighborhood of 1800 cuts on 1/2" round bar. I do find with 1/4" round stock that I have to make the first kiss onto the metal lightly, then push through normally. 1/4" flat stock cut on edge has no issues at all. I have also modified my Dewalt table by adding a new table on top of the old out of 1/2" plate. It made the saw much more accurate and the clamp actually holds now.
Reply:walker,I'd like to see some pictures of your modified Dewalt table. I recently picked up a used Dewalt  DW872 Multi -Cutter saw and read that the table and clamp aren't as good as they could be.
Reply:Here is a link to the DeWalt thread I started on it over at SFT. I just took a piece of scrap 1/2" plate and made it just larger than the DeWalt base, milled a groove for the sawslot, one for the stock clamp (had to recess the back of this groove so the hold down piece would still work), matched up all the existing bolt holes, milled some round grooves int the top so the chips wouldn't jam up the clamp, and through bolted everything back on through the original table. The milling machine made it easy, but it could be done by using flat bar and welding as well. If I were to do that I think I would take a piece of 1/4'' plate and torch out the areas around the saw slot and the clamp slot oversized, then plug  weld pieces of flat bar on top in the right spot to make the grooves.http://shopfloortalk.com/forums/show...ghlight=dewaltwalker,Thanks for the info and pictures on the saw mods.I'm going to have to get my machinist friend to help me make a new table.I'll probably use 3/8", I have that in the shop.I see you're using a Diablo blade, is it working pretty well for you?Last edited by CamW; 08-07-2011 at 12:47 PM.
Reply:Yeah, those 1800 cuts were on a new Diablo blade. I had to replace it this morning. The Dewalt blades are a bit better, but at 3x+ the cost it is not worth it. I get the Diablos from Cripe distributing for $40 a blade. They are not worth it to resharpen, as it cost $.50 per tooth to resharpen ($36 +tax), so when they are dull they go into the scrap bin. I tried reshapening them myself on my rig and they just don't perform much better. I have both had the Dewalts resharpened and done them myself and they take to it much better. For now, I'll stick with the Diablos until the price goes up,and also keep an eye on epay for the dewalts. I have heard good things about the Milwaukee blades, as well as some others, but the cost is up around $150 per blade, and for that kind of money it is just not worth it to me. When I get into a cutting intensive job I can wear out a blade in two days, but normally they will last for months.  Also I bought a big abrasive saw (18") that has a 7.5 horse belt drive on it. This saw has a blade that can swivel for miter cuts, and it now serves for all my heavier cutting on 1 1/2" and up tubing and solid stock bigger than 1/2". It is very accurate and does not have the blade flex issues of the 14" saws. I now use it as my usual saw and only break out the dewalt when I need now burr, or a much cleaner cut.
