I am a complete novice at welding, but want to upgrade my equipment. I have a cambell hausfield 80 amp flux core machine. I am looking to get a lincoln 175 or 180. Looking on ebay the 175 machines seem to be cheeper than than the 180's. I am planning to use this machine for light 4x4 fabbing (bumpers, rollbars etc).Whats the main difference between the two (other than 5 amps). Are the 180's a newer version? Of course I plan to improve my welding before any serious projects, but I just can't improve much on my present machine. Thanks for all the help this is great site, very helpful.
Reply:Modified drive system, otherwise the smae machine. The 175 lineup cranks out the power and will suit your needs niicely, Lots of them around and has very few problems.
Reply:I'd spend the extra bucks and get a 180C. Gives you a bit more control than a tapped machine. I've used 3 different weldpacks and all were tapped (continuous wasn't available when they were purchased) and the biggest complaint has always been about the taps. Always seems it could use just a touch up or down. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist. |
