aluminum flatbed

Ok I'm about to pull the trigger on building myself and a friend an aluminum flatbed. From my research I was thinking of doing the outside frame with 6 inch structural channel and the crossmembers 4 inch with two long pieces of channel along the frame to get my hight right. I was thinking 3/16th diamond plate for my friend and 1/4 for me. Does this sound right for frame size? I will do some fancy headache rack I think with diamond plate and 6 in channel. Any info or suggestions would be great going to order first thing mon morning. Thanks

Reply:If you need that much height that sounds like good choices. I usually use smaller stuff just because I prefer that look. Reply:Yeah I honestly dont know what I will haul lol. I am becoming a got to guy for a few clients so everyday is very very different. I might not go so thick. does the framing seem good and strong though? I will be mounting my trailblazer 250g plus tools and gas aircompressor.Yes about to buy a spoolgun for this project. Reply:alohacana I got some more pictures, and measurements for you. The sides have a 1 3/4“ X 2 1/2“ box tube. With what looks like a 10-GA angle welded to the box tube. The flange laps over the T-shape ribs, and deck.The ribs are a T-shapes. 1 1/4“ tall, with 1 3/4“ flange. Placed on 4 3/4“ center to center.The main rails are 3“ C-channel. I can think of several different ways better to build a flatbed than the way this one was built.
