I was looking at the owner's manual for the Tweco (ThermalArc) 181i.  It said the machine should be kept in a place with an ambient temperature range of 0C to 40C.  Huh? That's 32 to 105 degrees F!  Out in my metal shop building, I'm sure it gets to 120+ degrees on a hot summer day when the doors are closed.  What am I supposed to do, keep it in my living room or something?  What if it's in my truck when it's parked outside in the sun?  This is hard to believe.  Any comments?  This welder was headed for my short list until I read that.-RuarkLincoln 3200HDHobart Stickmate LX235TWECO Fabricator 211i
Reply:I am sure they put that in there to cover their butts for warranty, specs, and for optimal longevity/storage. I have used my 252i in freezing temps and also in the back of the truck when it's been 100+ outside right next to a 10k genset cranking away, guarantee it was over 105 degrees! No electronics or plastic like extreme temperatures, does not mean you can't use them, as far as the duty cycle they do rate them at a certain environment temperature. Never saw that or worried about temperature ranges before, the IP rating I did notice and have been glad for that part when using it out in the field.Last edited by Jawslandshark; 09-21-2015 at 10:15 PM.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300
