Hi everyone,it's been a few months since I have been on the forum here. I am getting ready to rebuild an F-163 from a Lincoln SA-200. It's been a while but I'm back at it again. I just sold my1975 Miller BIG 40 I restored last year. The guy I sold it too is having me rebuild his Lincoln SA-200 with an F-163. It's been going through a gallon of oil a day. I figure it's going to need a complete engine rebuild. I haven't started on it yet as I just brought it to the shop today. I won't know if it will need bored or have the crank turned until I get it stripped down and mic'd. I thought it might be a good idea to get a heads up from you guys on availability of parts and in your opinion the best place to get them. I'm not sure but I think I might have the specs in all that stuff I downloaded from Lincoln last year when I restored two old SA-200s. At minimum I will need a complete gasket set, rings and bearings. If it has to be bored it will also need oversize pistons. He also wants one of the new electronic idle controls installed on it. What is the best one to go with in your opinion? Later...Dave B.E-MAIL: [email protected] PAGES: www.wfmservice.comwww.rides4rides.comwww.pvpmedia.com/53f100.htmDad always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."I say, We can make it better.
Reply:wisconsin engines has some parts for these, but get ready for the price tags these engines are not cheap , gaskets shouldnt be a prob , I would advise you to fire it up and listen to it first if its knocking and wineing then pull it down , if not rering it and valve job, last I checked the 2 pc valve guides were not available but the 1 pc are , e-mail me and I can send you what I have for stocking parts houses
Reply:Thats what I was gonna say.. if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. or if it doesn't need to be completely rebuilt, you might need to replace something you didn't need to replace if you rebuild it.The Welder Shop has great deals and reviews on Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Welders.

Reply:from what you just said a rebuild would be wise ,engine removal is fairly easy ,support the armature ,remove the 4 bolts, and it will either pull straight out or you might have to rotate the gengine opposit of its rotation about an inch then it will come apart , it will either have 5 pins connecting the crank to armature ( plug ins ) or cam locks

Reply:do you have a good machine shop in your area ? do that reaserch first if the crank is to be turned , then do it wright , send the flywheel with it so its all ballanced, and when the rods are reconditioned it shouldnt matter what jug they back into, then the rest should be straight forward , I am putting a list together for you of supplyers and parts houses, last engine I did was a 1937 hercules dooc 4thumper diesel, its going in my f-150 sb 4x4 with a spicer 5 sp and road ranger o/d
