It's been a while since I have taken the opportunity to do some artistic cutting. This used to be a chunk of 14" channel iron. I printed out a picture on the computer printer, taped it to the surface of the channel, used an electric engraver to transfer the lines and then went to town with a 000 torch tip. Once I got it cut out I grabbed the die grinder and ground some depth into all of the inner cut lines. Used a flap disc next to get it cleaned up and to "bright metal", then used heat to get all of the inner cut lines to a dark blue. Flapped all of the high areas clean again and then colored them to the condition that the photos show. This was a little something for the MRS. and she was pretty happy to display it in her office. I kinda liked it too. Hope you all enjoy. Best regards, Allan Attached Imagesaevald
Reply:Real nice man!
Reply:That's awesome! I never thought about using an engraver to transfer lines. I wanted to get an overhead projector to do that, not no more! Thank you!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Very cool.  I'd like to try something like that some time.  If I only had more time and less projects.Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Reply:Nice, the depth and the colours turned out perfect.....Mike
Reply:Thanks for the positive comments folks. I only wish that I had the artistic eye that some people have. I taught a metal arts class for 4 quarters or so, some of the folks that came into the class were amazing. Many had never picked up a torch, welder, or any other piece of metal processing equipment and some of what they produced was just amazing.I do definitely enjoy what people can dream up and produce from what many consider junk/scrap. I think we have all seen examples of it and many of you on the forum here are gifted in that way. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:I'm sure the Mrs. is happy. Turned out fantastic. I use my overhead projector a few times a year but only for big stuff. I like the engraver trick. Thanks.

Reply:Well, as to the photography: from my samsung flip phone. I was kind of surprised by how well the pictures made it from my phone, to my gmail, and then to a file on my laptop. Thank you for the complimentary comments. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Awesome I really like the colors in it. Seems natural. The engraver trick is nice. There is another tool I have to get now. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. Reply:Very nice!  It's like you gave the metal a tattoo with that engraver!   Did you spray some rattle can clear coat on it afterwards, to prevent it from rusting?Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:Truly cooly, she's a lucky gal! That engraver trick is another one of those forest/tree ideas...too obvious to be apparent to me.   When a welder tells you to "stick it", what do they really mean?"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
