Started fabrication and fitting some parts for a smoker build. Here are some start up shots.I now can justify the price of these things, a lot of work to make them nice.  Shot of the welds before and after I smoothed them with the flap wheel. I used the piece for the fire box to help stop the "hot" spot in the main chamber. Attached Images
Reply:Thats one sharp looking seam, the rounded cut out looks great also. Please continue to upload pictures as project assembly continues.

Reply:Looks really good.  I'm looking forward to see how your door fits up.  Mine always seem to spring out when I cut it from and the pipe and try to fit it back.  Never can seem to make it fit just right.
Reply:Oh yea the door sprung when I cut it out.  May have to tweak it slightly, I am going to flange all the doors on the outside so it might cover up any little imperfections. I am going to use 1x1/8 flat stock to flange all the doors with a 1/4 overlap.

Reply:Very nice.  I'm also tagging this for latter reference. What did you build the frame for the sliding grate out of? It looks like bar stock in the pict, but I assume the expanded mesh is set in a "channel" since the inside edge looks smaller than the exterior thickness. Did you cut down some angle iron to make the frame?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Howdy; That is a fine looking smoker. About the door spring back, I cut my hinges for the door out of 1/4" steel, with the same inside radius as the tank and almost the full arc of the door. I the smoker body is heavy steel, I cut another rib with the same radii as the hinges but without the hinge head and weld it to the tank, in the center or the door layout before cutting the door. The rib looking hinges I make are usually 1/4" X 1" cross section. The other part of the hinge has the same profile but is about 4" long, welded to the tank body. If you lay a flexible scale along the door arc, top to bottom, I cut my hinges about 2" shorter, same with the center rib.Hope this is clear enough and that it helps.Smoke on, Bob

Reply:Awesome build.  Got any more details of the firebox yet? Here's how I did all of my racks so I couldn't accidently pull one all the way out and dump a rack full of meat. Push them all the way in to lift up on the back and out for cleaning.Used the same method on the grilling tray and main smoking rack.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=57183MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Got a little bit more done today on the smoker.  Busted out the tubing bender I built about three years ago and built a front shelf for the front and over the fire box.  I used the tubing roller I built to radius the end over the fire box,  give it a little flare. Attached Images
Reply:sweet man, excellent welding.

Reply:Awesome Smoker!!! I really like the tubing addition!what bender are you using?? Is it the one from the Got Trikes plans?? How do you like the vertical bending?

Reply:Well Its on a frame now.  It is just hanging on the tubing for now, I will do some nice arched tube work to  tie in to the base and frame.  I had to become expert in math to figure this out, my brain is still hurting. Attached Images

Reply:Decided I wanted a piece of stainless steel over the fire box.  Got a piece of 14ga. 304 stainless at the local steel yard on the cheap.  I wanted the bolts to be flush so I can put pots and pans on top to warm stuff up when on long cooks.  Counter sunk the mounting bars and made a dimple die to dimple into the counter sink.
