--I bought two of these at Salvation Army for $2. They're about 4" in diameter and had a metal cap on top and some sort of a cylinder beneath them as if they could have been screwed onto the top of a lamp for decoration or maybe at the end of a curtain rod. I cut those parts off. I've checked King Architectural and they do have something similar I could use if I had to although their piece is considerably less bulbous and more like an ornament that would hang on a Christmas tree.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:if i was a welder i might make one not overly difficult. tack 5 or 6 short lengths of round stock over a center one that gets knocked out after tacking, heat and bend one way then in the opposite direction after it cools some. you may have to pry a little to get symmetrical. if that fails try the local home decor place.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:This is as close as I can come. Not quite the diameter you're looking for. http://www.kingmetals.com/Catalog/Ca...ilId=508&NSM=Yhttp://www.superiorornamentalsupply....ts-68-550.html
Reply:Perfect excuse to learn to make them Weld the straight sections together, heat and twist, then back up on your twist and it will open.Check youtube for videos on it - try not to get hooked on forging stuff Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:iwreckalot> I was over there looking and completely missed this, http://www.kingmetals.com/Catalog/It...ilId=508&NSM=Y. I did not know these were called forged steel round baskets. I was looking for finials so thank you. They're a bit smaller than what I had in mind but when push comes to shove, I'll buy what you found so thank you. --docwelder & MinnesotaDave> "if i was a welder i might make one not overly difficult. tack 5 or 6 short lengths of round stock over a center one that gets knocked out after tacking, heat and bend one way then in the opposite direction after it cools some. you may have to pry a little to get symmetrical." Reply:This looks fairly simple.  Square stock all bent the same and welded at the ends.  Figure out how to bend it and way you go.

Reply:Oh my... correction to my last post. I typed this, "If anyone is planning to host a forgarama in the Midwest, it would take much "twisting" of my arm to get me to attend." I meant to type that it wouldn't take much twisting of my arm to get me to attend. Oops. --cubevandude> I've learned looks can be incredibly deceiving. --Notsooldordum> I've actually seen artists making similar finials at Sauder's Village over in Ohio and before that along the Trail of History in IL. They made it look so easy. I'm pretty sure they used metal bar not metal rod. I don't recall any of them making them round so there may very well be a trick to that. I do recall them all having a "twist" although they all had the classic teardrop ornament shape appearing in both of MinnesotaDave's YouTubes.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act.
