I am wondering if anyone here has personal experience with this product: http://www.grizzly.com/products/Port...-w-Stand/G8692I really would like a port a band, and a small band saw. I am cramped on space and don't have room for a full size band saw. Seems like this would meet the criteria, I am just wondering on quality. It doesn't look all that impressive, but it's pretty cheap. Anyone use one or can suggest an affordable alternative?
Reply:ive had a milwaukee portaband for over 25 years. dont do production work but its a great saw.

Reply:How much extra is the stand for the Milwaukee saws?
Reply:Here's a really nice stand for those for $85.http://www.swagoffroad.com/Porta_ban...t_Product.html--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:The Milwaukee bandsaw base has always been priced at the same price as the saw and only cuts at 90 degrees. You should check out this site kooltools.com/bandsaw_ad105s.html and also lathemaster.com/Benchtop%20Bandsaw.htm . As you can see the lathemaster version is a copy at 1/3 the cost. If the capacity of the machine covers your needs I would definitly consider this saw. The only draw back the machine has is that there are no detent stops at any of the degree markers, so just like the chops saw you got to check it everytime you make a miter adjustment.
Reply:I have the dewalt deep throat portaband, I like it much better than the milwaukee a friend has, deal-breakers for me are the "sight-light" to illuminate your cutting path and ability to vary blade speed in FPM.
Reply:Really handy tools, I just bought a Dewalt deep cut, just like new, case, manual and it has the LIGHT feature, nice saw, I got it on ebay for $125, it was a BUY-it-Now, it was only up for several hours and i saw it, and bought it. It would have got 175 or more if it were auctioned off. I had been watching for at least 3 weeks, I rented a Milwaukee before, nice saw but the blade kept coming off, but it had lots of time on it i'm sure...and ya gotta remember you only have a 4- 3/4" throat too....
Reply:I am kind of leaning towards a Dewalt or Milwaukee tool now. I need something that can cut chromoly tubing, and I don't think the Grizzly will be up to the task. I am afraid that it will not go slow enough on the blade speed to prevent burning up blades. I guess I can use one as is, and make a stand for it later.
Reply:I ended up buying a used Milwaukee 6230 porta band off ebay for $134 instead. I have used them before and I know that they are a quality product.
Reply:So i am thinking about getting one of these portable band saws. I guess not much people like the grizzly saw. I really like the dewalt but it doesnt seem to have the horizontal base/stand and for you to clamp down your work too like the grizzly saw. Anyone know if maybe they sell this stand separately or maybe another company makes them?
Reply:disepyon, If you get a base for a portaband it is usually the same cost of the saw its self. You should go to lathemaster.com and check out there bandsaw.
Reply:BTW, Lathemaster says out-of-stock.
Reply:that is what i am looking for. Great price too. However how is the quality? never heard of this brand. do these saws last a long time? i like the the angle feature, although the markings dont look very precises and detailed, but great none the less. If this really is a great saw i would purchase it now, though id have to ask about the out of stock and when they get a new batch of saws made.
Reply:here is a pretty nice review of the saw, after searching around for information.http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...26tbs%3Disch:1
Reply:this seems like a great saw, but man the money is alot more. I havent looked around yet for a better price but to give you guys a description on it. They make another one like this but with a 6in capacity. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/2LKT7?Pid=search

Reply:I have a Homier portaband similar to the Grizzly but no stand. It's an okay saw but not as good as the name brand portabands. For the price the Griz looks like a decent deal. You are getting close to the cost of a 4x6 horizontal saw.Last edited by Brad Blazer; 11-23-2010 at 10:22 PM.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools

Reply:Well yesterday I bought the Dayton one sold at Grainger. I got the smaller of the 2 models. It seems to be built very well, solid, good cast base, good sturdy clamp. The pivot appears to be stout and tight. The miter function is easy to use, though there are no detent stops at common angles like 15, 30, 45, 60. It miters up to 60 degrees in one direction only. It has a variable motor speed control dial too that makes a noticeable difference in blade speed. I cut a couple pieces of 1" sq 16ga tube and some 1/2" x 1-1/2" flat bar and about a 4" wide piece of 3/8" plate with it. The cuts are very clean and saw is very quiet and very little mess. It is noticeably slower cutting than an abrasive chop saw or carbide dry chop saw. Definately a lot quieter than an abrasive or carbide chop saw for sure. I think I'll like the new band saw. It came with one blade in it and I bought one spare, total came to about $600 with tax.Last edited by DesertRider33; 11-24-2010 at 03:33 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I got one of those stands from Swag offroad for my Milwaukee 6230. It sits in the stand nice and square but I can't make a square cut because the blade is slightly cocked to the left.
