Reply:I would get the Irwin for now and keep looking for a deal on a big Wilton or other big vise. You will need a smaller vise as well so you will always get use out of the Irwin. That said I love my 8" Wilton and wouldn't take for it but I just wouldn't pay new price for one. I got it on a trade.
Reply:A guy about 90 miles south of me (Sacramento) has the same vice you want Ed on CL for $90. I'd buy the sucker but my Wilton is the bigger model and i have a monster Charles Parker and to many smaller vises.  Just remembered seeing Amazon has the vise you are wanting for $399Last edited by jbmprods; 09-08-2011 at 11:59 AM.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:$800 for a dang vise?! Id buy the irwin and spend the other $720 on something else useful. Thats a nice chunk of a new tig welder, new drillpress, a couple new grinders and some other stuff, an engine lift, etc. But on a vise? Reply:Wilton vises are now made in China. Jet manufacturing bought out Wilton, much to my dismay, about two years ago. I had a milling machine vise that was Wilton made and it failed in one year. That particular type of vise should have never failed and the older ones are still around working. That was when I did some research on them to find out that they are no longer American made or manufactured. Buy what ever you want but do so with your eyes open. Good luck!!!
Reply:thanks jb, i have a 4 1/2 craftman have had it for years and made in the usa (now if there where a american flag as a smilie i could just type made in smilie) the top of the line wilton vises are made in usa.i was just thinking spend $500.00 for a really good vise for the new shopand it will be the last one i ever buy. as for grinders my grizzle sanderis 150lbs and a great machine made in taiwan, cost $664.00 Attached Images
