I want to get a plasma cutter but i have some concerns with sparks flying everywhere. I dont have much space to work with and the space i do have to work with needs to be minimal sparks flying around. I have only seen water tables for automated plasma cutters , is it safe to use with manual cutting. Also any other ideas to keep sparks contained would be good. I have though of building a small enclosure , like some walls around the watertable.
Reply:I'm curious about setting up like that too. I have a stainless salad bar sink about 3' x 6' x 6" that would be good to use, but I don't want to get juiced.
Reply:There's no reason you can't use a water table for manual hand cutting. It will help keep the dust, sparks and fumes down.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:It will work. But be aware that some water will spray out and might hit you. It might be a bit distracting.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:Also be aware if you cut stainless the water will technically become hazardous waste. But had cutting with a water table would probably suck big time anywayVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Don't worry about the water table, just get the plasma and use cation and good judgment about what direction you point the business end of it when cutting. If you need to contain the area get a handful of firebrick and brick in the area you are cutting in. |
