Started on a torch cutting table this morning.    I'm always a bit freaked out when I am cutting and I see sparks go skittering across the floor.    Id hate for something to get somewhere and smolder a few hours before it burned the place down.   My neighbor lost a barn that way.    The grill area is 33" x37"  the one end will be connected to the floor and will be able to pull it out to clean it out.   The grill bars are 3/8x1-1/2   @ 2-1/2" o.cI will be welding them to the side.  I thought a bought making them removable but if one gets messed up I have a torch and welder.  I prefer the structural rigidity I'm not exactly sure how I am going to do the legs.   I was going to put a posts on each corner and a frame a racks underneath where I could store metal cut offs.   Then I saw the pictures of the guy with the adjustable height one and I am thinking about doing itI am tacking it up with my AC225 running 6013.    Once its tacked I will fire up my TA 10/270  Thermal Arc  Power-Tech 10/270  stick welderLincoln buzz-boxPurox O/A setupNothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool
Reply:That looks like a very stout cutting table!  Great job!    You didn't mention on how you plan on containing the slag and sparks as they fly out the bottom of the table.  Or maybe you did and I just didn't catch it.   I haven't had my morning coffee yet. I simply slide an old galvanized trash can with about 1 inch of ordinary sand evenly spread at the bottom of the can.  The hot molten slag and sparks doesn't burn through the can that way.  I only need to clean it out maybe once per year, then refill with another inch of sand.  Ps.... I would have made the entire project from start to finish with the Lincoln buzzbox.  Then again, I'm so biased.  Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:I kinda like the little buzzer.  I just picked her up on Craigslist last week for $85  with a bunch of rods, hammers, and other goodies.   I am really liking how she runs 6013.    I need to upgrade the wiring on my end of the shop.   I only have a 20 amp breaker down here,  so if I weld too much (more than 2" at a time)  I kick the breaker.    Our electrian is supposed to be getting me a heavier breaker.Thermal Arc  Power-Tech 10/270  stick welderLincoln buzz-boxPurox O/A setupNothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool
Reply:Finished welding the table today.   For the drawer I built a frame with 2x2 angle and attached the one end piece to it.   I used 1/8 flat sheet for the bottom of the drawer.     When I get my hands on some expanded metal I will build a shelf for metal cutoffs on the bottom.     I think I might also make a box or tray for lighters ect.Thermal Arc  Power-Tech 10/270  stick welderLincoln buzz-boxPurox O/A setupNothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool
Reply:. Thought I was done but I don't think I am.   I had a brazing project so as I was getting set up at my table I went looking for a piece of flat metal to lay things on.   I found a piece of 3/4x12".   I think I am going to fasten it on the side as a tig/brazing work area.Thermal Arc  Power-Tech 10/270  stick welderLincoln buzz-boxPurox O/A setupNothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool
Reply:Slick. You'd better make a spare in case that one disappears.  :beer:Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
Reply:Funny you should say that.  I had the truck mechanics down in my shop this morning already.  They had a piece of steel they wanted to cutThermal Arc  Power-Tech 10/270  stick welderLincoln buzz-boxPurox O/A setupNothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool
Reply:You should have made the slats removable so they could be changed when necessary.brad
Reply:I thought about it but  cutting notches for them to sit in would have been a time consuming PITA.     If/when a bar gets too messed up I can always cut it out and replace it.   I have the torch right there.    I also like the structural rigidity if I want to clamp something downThermal Arc  Power-Tech 10/270  stick welderLincoln buzz-boxPurox O/A setupNothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool
Reply:I made a similar table using small pieces of angle as spacers so I didn't have to cut notches. I guess it depends on how much you cut on the table.brad
