I cobbled together a simple adjustable test stand a while back and it worked for what it was designed to do. My local surplus store had a bunch of cast aluminum "speedrail" fittings and the appropriate sized tubing. Would there be any problems building a stand out of aluminum? I'm wondering if the ground will work going through the cast fittings or will it screw with the arc?Sent from my SPH-L710 using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Aluminum conducts better than steel.  IMHO, should not affect your ground.30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press
Reply:A test stand for what? What are you going to be testing with it? You should experience no problems with grounding to any cast fittings you have. Do you have any pix of the stand you built? We like pix of things around here, so don't be stingee with them.
Reply:A welding coupon holder/test stand thing to practice on. Here is my other one built from scrap  (pic will not upload right for some reason)It serves it's purpose but I would like some more adjustability and possibly an arm rest.Sent from my SPH-L710 using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
