Hi yall I'm a newbie in need of help. I have a Lincoln SA200-F163 welder that needs a rear seal put in. I'm a mechanic but I've never worked on a welder I need help on how to seperate the engine and welder so I can get the crank out to replace the rope seal.I have the diagrams on both engine and gen. ,but I can't tell what is holding them together. Are they dowel pinned together, I dont see any bolts that you can remove  I've been to other forums and did searches. I can find how to put the seal in ,but not how to seperate the shafts.I'd rather ask a silly Question than make a very costly mistake. So agin I'm asking you experts for help, and I thank you guys for any and all advice.
Reply:Have the same issue with my Lincoln 300D(Perkins).  It's got a tiny leak, about 1 drop per day from seam between the engine and the generator.  I've not done anything about it, since the leak is so small.  One of these days I'll fix it, unless it gets worse, in which case I'll jump on it immediately.Thought I'd mention this to kick the topic back up to the top of the list.  Hopefully, someone with more experience in servicing these machines will comment.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Well, first thing is that YOU DON'T SEPARATE THE ENGINE FROM THE GENERATOR!! on a SA200Drop the oil pan,With a 5/16 12 point socket remove the 2 bolts from under the lower seal retainer, that lower half seal holder will drop outGently punch and rotate the top seal and holder out.remove the old sealTake a long socket and roll the new seal sorta flat and insert it into the top seal holder, cut the ends flat and reinsert it into the retainer in the block, gently tap the retainer in to place, Be very carefull not to distort or break this retainerDo the same for the bottom retainer. If your going to replace the pan gasket, then your done, if your going to use RTV, place a smigen of rtv between the 2 retainers before you tighten the retainers together. On a 300D we have been finding that the ultra low sulfur diesel at the pumps is causing some vibration in the engines, as well as no lube for the ingectors or pumps, hense more problems.. A quality diesel fuel lubricant (yes we use tranny fluid in the fuel sometimes) tends to smooth out the engine, thus no more leakage.Last edited by Cruizer; 10-26-2008 at 08:38 PM.
Reply:Are you doing the front seal too? I can explain that in detail if you like.
Reply:THANK YOU Cruizer for the info.I took the lower seal and retainer out .I could'nt see a upper retainer when I first removed it since its behind the rear main bearing .It probably wouldn't hurt to replace the front seal since I have the rad. out If you care to explain the procedure please do
Reply:Actually that one is logical, remove the alt belt, remove the pulley with a puller, pry out the old seal and replace itAlso tighten ther 2 lower bolts that go into the lower pan half moon support seal as they always come loose, Don't crank them too tight as it's aluminum
Reply:Thanks guys I got the job done ,should of had my glasses on the in the first place and better lighting.I hadn't removed the pulley yet when you asked about the front seal. Agin I thank yall for the help, I'll probably have more Questions later on since this is my first gas welder.
