Had a flat, for the first time, in one of my Subarus.  Got out the virgin scissors jack, but the virgin jack crank handle  was nowhere to be found.  Made one.  Worked fine.  Rusty rebar is less than satisfactory as weldable stock.  Did it with 6013 rod, Miller Dialarc, DCEP.  The hook is a cutoff piece of a link from a boat chain.  The two 90 deg elbows were each prepared by sawing the mating ends to 45 deg on the horizontal bandsaw.  Total time 25 min.
Reply:Not a bad  work up...
Reply:As long as it works, it is fine. However, if you plan to keep it for long, I would wire wheel it and, at least, clear coat it. You will prevent it from rusting and getting the inside of your trunk stained with rust.Mikel
Reply:Necessity is the Mother of invention........ You go to do what you got to do :-) Read your Owners Manual, Subaru use to put stuff in very unusual places, like who puts the spare tire on top of the engine?  Now keep in mind, it has been a 100 years since I had my hands on a  Subaru so I suspect a lot has changed.Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:Mighty rough on the hands, hope you don't have to use it often.  Bob
