Hey guys, I am currently using a shade 11 gold fixed shade lens for stick welding around 120 amps. I was just wondering what shade you all use for your processes such as stick mig and tig.
Reply:I like a shade 10 for tig and stick, and a shade 12 for mig.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:I run 10 for everything short of 200amps or air arc gouging. Air arc gouging gets 12.My "collection":Homemade Stick WelderVictor O/A TorchAC 225Ideal Arc 250HF 90 Amp Flux CoreHF Mig 170Solar 2020 Plasma CutterPower i-Mig 140EHarris O/A torchHF Dual Mig 131140STAlpha Tig 200x
Reply:Shade 10 for me at 200 amps or less also. 11 just restricts my view too much for my liking. I'll use shade 11 for arc air or stick welding with 3/16 - 1/4" rod (210-300 amps)JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:all good answers. darkest you can see w/ to get job done might be #1. #2 "everyones eyes are different." I dont like auto lenses period. i got blue eyes, i'm 3 shades from an albino,my skin turns red in summer, i use the darkest i can get away w/. my left eye gives me more problems than my right, i been thinking about trying to get darker lens in my safety glasses for the left. funny what fyretex says, but not funny when we need to speak in code, because the first ammendment is under attack as much as the 2nd is
Reply:"Best" is whatever you're most comfortable with... I don't personally like auto hoods, I use a #10 gold for mig/stick. I have no tig experience. |
