Im looking at buying my first welder and came across a Lincoln SP-130T on craigslist. Im looking at doing mostly automotive work specifically building my offroading jeep and was wondering if this would be a good welder to go with. im trying to keep the price in the 400-500 range and i found the welder tank helmet cart and all accessories for 400. Ive read that this machine is basically an older version of the 175 is this true? Thanks for any input or suggestionsGeoff
Reply:It is an old machine, and you might be better off looking at the 135sp, or the 140, or the 3200. These are all 110v machines that have the same output. Basically, you have some flexibility with power source. For 220v welders, don't bother with less than a 175, as the extra power of a 175/180 is a welcome addition. It really comes down to price and application. The 110v welders are good machines, and right now, there are some out there for a bargain!! The old 130 is so old, there is always the question of its' reliability/ lifespan. It was not an industrial grade machine when it was made, though it was a good old welder. If it were an old industrial machine, I would be more inclined to say it was a decent deal. Look on www.dezertrangers.com, www.race-dezert.com in their classified areas for used welders for sale. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return. |
