Reply:Honestly he could have a very successful channel if he "produced" his videos so they're a little more watchable (condensed, concise, organized, add value, show something, or answer a question, or otherwise make the viewer want to watch it). He's got a lot of really good info and skill and some of his videos are genuinely funny as hell, like the how to strike and arc one.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:I'm wondering if there is anyone close to his age that can legitimately say they have more skill. This guy was born to weld.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:The bottom line is. if your goal is to have a successful youtube channel you need to make videos that people are willing to take time out of their lives to watch. Do it how your target audience wants it, not how you want it, otherwise they'll simply skip it and they're off to the next video (and it's not one of yours...)Last edited by MikeGyver; 05-22-2014 at 01:11 AM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:A lot of people just don't get it. You have to look at it as a whole instead of focus on one thing and base your opinion on that. You probably are the monkey he often talks about if you think he is full of him self.I like the channel the way it is.

Reply:Ya know, I only started this thread to make all the pipe weldors on here aware that FieldRes had a couple of new vids up, not to start a pi$$ing contest!  I'm 68 years old, and if I was still in business or still teaching, I'd hire FieldRes in a second.  I really never remember taking my wife or my kid to work with me, but that's just me.  When a skilled individual takes the time to pass on tips to others for free, whatever the reason, why does it have to end up in a ***** measuring contest?

Reply:I would not hesitate to hire the guy either. I think what the reason they are attempting to pass the skill on matters much. I would much rather have someone due it as an act of largess.I don't know what you mean about the measuring contest.

Reply:Arhh no channel  I have showed a few of his videos to colleagues he is very funny and a great welder just wish he would have allowed comments and rating on his videos when they where up
Reply:Sadly  I just had found the guy on youtube.I am learning to weld 5g and have had problems getting underneath the pipe.I watched a bit of a video of his body movements and am vastly improved because of it.Wish I had saved some of his videos.I have bought Jodys dvds and would buy Fieldres's in a heartbeat.Maybe his videos are not as professionally as some but the guy shows the full picture(You can clearly see what he is trying to show.) Which I could somehow contact the guy.

Reply:Here are some Questions for all of you!Does anyone actually KNOW him in person? Have you MET him? Have you physically worked on the same site as him?  Have you sat across from him in the Lunch trailer?Have you been out to his place to Weld?Does anyone actually have his number and talk with him a lot? I know him in person. All comments aimed towards him, just prove that nobody knows him – never met him, never talked to him, isn’t a friend of his, but for me – who is a friend of his, who has worked with him, who talks with him, who has been out to his house numerous, numerous times and have welded with him – I actually know this guy in person, and all comments aimed at him are completely off the mark. Because of him, I have acquired my tig pipe welding qualifications, downhand ticket, and he has shown me numerous welding techniques. He shown me how to tig weld carbon steel first, and sent me in to get my ticket. When I got the ticket, he had me over again and taught me how to set up for stainless steel. In my time with him, I have learned how to do position welds in whatever angle and position the pipe is setup in, I have been shown the looking through the gap technique, I have been shown the various roll welding techniques on 2-6 inch schedule 10 stainless and 8 inch schedule 10 stainless, I have been shown techniques for roll welding carbon steel, inconel, duplex; he has shown me how to manually roll weld pipe using my wrists and a chain grip while doing tig root passes, he has shown me techniques on roll welding 6010 root passes, he had shown me to use one hand on the stinger and one hand on the remote at all times, and he worked with me on all these different metals, helping me get ready to accept a job that no matter what weld I had to do whether it was fitting up spools and roll welding them out or doing welds in a rack somewhere, he has helped me with this. Whats more on top of that, he did not ask for anything in return, and he would not accept anything I wanted to give him for a ‘thankyou’. As far as the reasons why he does things in the welding videos – When he was helping me with my downhand root passes, he told me that a proper downhill progression root pass, if a person is using the correct technique then he should not have to wear a welding helmet because all spatter and light will go inside the pipe. He followed that up by removing his welding helmet and demonstrating the downhand root pass. He was correct that you don’t get flashed or burnt from spatter, and it also made me realize I personally need more practice. Why he tapes a black lens to the pipe and does tig root passes without a helmet on is because it was the only way that a person who goes to his house to weld would understand where he’s even looking and what he’s doing on the weld. You can ask him why he tapes a lens to the pipe, and its because he wants the viewer to realize that he’s looking inside the pipe seeing whats going on inside, and that you can’t explain it enough times, you have to physically show a person which is what he seems to be doing on video. This guy is a great, great guy! He’s an awesome guy whose down to earth and fun to be around. He’s incredibly smart, very sharp, and when I see guys saying that he seems weird, personally I thought the guy was pretty cool, and didn’t notice anything to detract from that. As a matter of fact, if you go to his house, you will actually see the spider from his one video hanging from the ceiling as you first walk in to where he welds. And the guys absolutely hilarious, one time I was at his place and he picks up this broom and the next thing you see is him trying to wack at this spider and he sais in the most straight face manner “damn spider” he drops the broom and sais “I’m going up to the house for insect repellant, you want a redbull?!” This guy is genuine and real, and in real life, he is extremely serious, but you’ll see a glimmer of something hilarious that he’ll do, and he actually just hams it up for the camera, its pretty obvious that he’s just hamming it up. Definitely a great guy! great friend too!

Reply:I hadn't had the chance to watch too many of his videos, half dozen or more. The one about how to set a generator welder, talking about the effects of voltage on the puddle, I learned so much, it taught me to weld all over again. I wish I had him for a teacher when I did my B level schooling. That video was the lesson I never had and it was the Best one I ever had. I can weld hot and fast and its less work VS the way I was taught, I could read the puddle but now its less work to get nicer welds! I wish I had him for a friend, and to work with him, hes got a great sense of humor. The video about the bobcat attachment was hilarious, my GF even got it and she doesn't always find the humor in things! I know he's in Alberta somewhere, Id like to the opportunity to meet him and get a tune up on my skills and pick up a few more. JakeSmith, Send him Thanks from Doug Paterson, and to send me a message when he gets the chance, Id like to know him!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
