Does anybody use the foot pedal to control amps in stick mode?
Reply:I don't know about that machine, but I've occasionally seen the pedal used with stick on other units. Not really something that is done very often. You sort of have to have a real specialized need to adjust the amps while welding..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:That is the way I weld stick. One hand on the stinger the other on the remote. Remotes on most European are small so you can easily operate them one handed. Here is mine for example
Reply:Yeah it's nice. Some other Kemppi remotes even have 2 wheels, one for amperage the other for arc force. It's funny how some things are done differently on various countries, eg in most European countries a foot pedal is a rare sight except maybe for airspace industry.
Reply:Same here, no spool guns used. Just rollers designed for aluminum in a standard feeder. Not all feeders are capable of this though especially with the softer 4043 wire.Pipeline here is mostly done with TIG root and low hydrogen electrodes. We got a job recently to do a weldability test for a pipe manufacturer with 6010 uphill root and 8010 downhill passes and the only welders I could find that could weld that way were some Russians that weld in a pipeline here lol!!!I have gotten sick of seeing busted tig air cooled torches since the guys here work them up to 260-270A if doing a second pass with tig The only guys that you can find that weld 6010 are some old pipe welders that worked before tig became the method of choice for open root pipe.Last edited by taz00; 06-03-2014 at 08:34 AM.
Reply:I gave the foot pedal a quick running some 7018 1/8 beads on flat stock. Sometimes I have trouble at the end of a bead as I approach an edge with getting too hot, it was nice to dial down the amps a bit as I got the edge of the workpiece.
Reply:I tried it on my 160SX. It worked, but I don't use it. I was working in a gas compressor station in Coudersport, PA 20 years ago, and needed their pipeline welder to make some welds for us. He ran his gas welder and climbed up on the engine with stinger and foot control. He saved a lot of time by not having to run out to the welder to fine tune.
Reply:HF start with stick is pretty cool, makes it stickless weldingSent from my SCH-I545 using TapatalkTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
