Hi folks,After reading over and over how great the arc was on a Millermatic 200, but not finding any in great shape, I picked up a Vintage. It had a bad drive control board, which I had fixed a while ago. I then thought the machine was bad because it was welding horribly, after which I realized that weldingsupply.com had sent E71T-1 which is not gasless, even though that's what I ordered. (3 x 33lb spools and they won't do anything about it!) Anyway, now I've got some .030 E71T-GS in it, and although the arc is fine, I can't get the feed right. The feed rolls are brand new (though that are .035 VK because miller doesn't make .030 VK rolls). I have the centerline of the driven roll adjusted correctly. However, I'm getting all kinds of bird's nesting. I've adjusted the drive tension and I can't get it right. I'm not new to MIG. Either the wire is slipping in the rolls with no pressure on it, or I adjust it a half turn to where it's actually feeding, and then if I just hold the wire coming out of the gun by hand, instant bird's nest inside the machine. The wire seems to always be bird's nesting under the gun entrance. It appears to me that the wire is running through the roll section a little high. Like, the roll should be a little bigger diameter or mounted a little higher - but I don't see any way to adjust the roll up and down. Anyone run into this before?

Reply:If the drive rolls are not engaged,Can you pull the wire out of the gun by hand. with little effort.Bad liners and tips are the usual problem.
Reply:Ditto
Reply:The guide tube from the wire roll is too close to the drive roller and is holding it up too high. Loosen the set hut and move the tube back about an 1/8" or so. It should be the same as the tapered brass part on the liner side. You can see in the pics that they are not the same.
Reply:How about the tension on the wire spool, liner, contact tip?
