I ran my Ranger 8 most of the day using it as a generator with no problems. The idle up and idle down worked as needed. Later in the day I set up to do some welding and when I struck an arc the idle up would not work. I used the idle up switch, the engine idle up worked but when I started welding the engine almost bogged down to a stall, until I quit. I setup as a generator again running my air compressor, the compressor started, the high idle fired up and was fine for a few minutes then the engine started to bog again, almost stopping then recovering. This continued until the compressor shut off and the engine returned to low idle. I haven’t torn into the unit yet as I'm still on this job. Control board issue?? Any help is appreciated! Reply:Check governer linkages first see if they are free or stuck.  Clean out your carb. Then clean all your connections. If the idle up has quite working, it is either your connections or your PC board.  No amount of cleaning on my terminals would fix it. It took a new PC board.  New one run around the 200-300 dollar mark. I had mine rebuilt for less than half that.  But if the idle up works and the engine bogs, then I'd suspect engine issues, though other things could be possible.  Someone might disagree with me and that is quit possible that there are other issues I am not aware of.  Call Innovat.  They are good at overt the phone diagnosis to help decide if it is a circuit board.  Then they can fix the circuit board if it is the problem at a reasonable rate.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I went over all the connections today. Everything seemed OK but who knows. It seems to be running and idling up properly when I strike an arc. Plugged a chop saw in and it ran fine. I pulled the cover off the PC board and blew the dust off of it. It's a L8484-3 board and all looked good. I only ran it for about 30 minutes, might need to run it longer and see if the original problem comes back. Thanks for the info. Ranger 8 3200HD 225 Cracker Box
