Hello everyone. First time poster here.  Let me introduce myself. My name is Will and I am a 20 year Marine and retired 5 years ago. Around 1996 I took an interest in mig welding and bought a book and a little welder from a company called Daytona Mig which has since went out of business.  It has served me well and I learned the basics with it. Since I retired and no more moving, I have finally built my dream garage and finally can place focus on hobbies I was not able to do in the past.  Today I bought my first "real" welder. A Miller MM141.  Simple to set up a WOW!  What a difference in welds!  I am much better than I thought now that I am using a good machine.  Smoother operation, cleaner welds and consistent.  I am just amazed of what I been missing out on all these years.I plan to do many things from autobody work to trailers. That said, my plan is to buy the MM141 and down the road a MM252 for the heavier stuff. I like the smaller gun of the 141 for small stuff. So thanks for reading and lurking around the site. I have learned a lot reading all the posts.  What a great source of knowledge captured right here. Will

Reply:Welcome to Welding Web, and FYI, there IS an intro forum you could have used right above General Welding Questions. But you done broke the ice here so don't worry too much about it. Where from you located?I see by your user name, you must have been in LVTs in your time with Uncle Sam's Miserable Children. We carried those on the ship I was on. Launched off the stern gate underway, retrieved'em too.Last edited by Bistineau; 10-19-2015 at 07:22 PM.

Reply:Sorry for the long reply and not posting in the "introduction section".Here are some shots of my dream garage as requested by some.  Hope you like it.It is a 30x57 four car garage with a dedicated 200 amp service. Doors are 10x9 and I have a upstairs storage 14x36. The far left bay has a Challenger 10k lift installed with the two foot extensions for a 14 ft overall height. That bay has a cathedral ceiling to accommodate the lift height. The garage is insulated with R19 in the walls and R30 in the ceiling. Air system is a Ingersoll Rand 80 gallon 2 stage fully packaged compressor. Airlines are the 1 in Rapid Air Fast Pipe System in a loop configuration with five drops. Each drop has a Wilkerson regulator. The compressor has Wilkerson regulator/filter as well. Also mounted on the front wall are two 50 foot 1/2 retractable air reels.  Electrical, all 20 amp outlets and 4 50 amp circuits and one 50 amp circuit for the air compressor.  I currently have the MM141, Daytona Mig Fab 145 (sold), Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38 plasma cutter, small horizontal (4-1/2 inch) bandsaw, Derek Weaver Tire Changer and Wheel Balencer and not to forget my Snap-on Tool box.Things I am looking to get: Metal working table. Still looking around at ideas to build one or buy one.  Jet vertical bandsaw, hydraulic shop press and a larger welder (MM252) for heavier projects. Down the road I want to tinker with TIG. Once all is set up, projects, projects, projects. I can't wait. Right now I been sustaining the home, fabrication of stands, weld repairs for others and yard equipment and wrenching on cars.  Just doing the fun things I have always wanted to do.  Thanks for taking the time to read and hope you all enjoy the pictures.WillLast edited by Amtracker; 10-20-2015 at 08:45 PM.

Reply:Thanks for serving !! Now for the garage, I think it's too fancy for me. We may have to get you banned before you start. KIDDING, but it is way too clean . It may take a couple of years to fill it up. IF you need more ideas for it, try this site , http://www.garagejournal.com/ . Many interesting topics .

Reply:Beautiful shop... in some of the photos, it looks like you've got large tiles on the floor.  Is that ceramic tile, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
Reply:Very nice.  Unfortunately that is not a shop for welding, cutting, and grinding.    You probably do most of that outside like I do.   I also made the floor a bit too fancy for serious work (epoxy coating - and not the cheap store brand).    I plan to make a foldup booth out of sheet metal and welding blankets.  I still wouldn't want to do anything in the booth that sends sparks flying toward the walls or shelving.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300
