I bought this off of amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...productDetailsI know it is Chinese crap, but hey it was cheap. They advertise a 60% duty cycle at 150 amps. I am running this at 100 amps, and it is getting mighty hot. The combo gas hose/power lead is getting hot too. I am just running some practice beads on steel. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong here?  Is there something I can correct to keep this from getting so hot (clean the connections to reduce resistance?). I am running it with a CK stubby gas lens collet body and 3/32 gold band tungstens.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:They just get hot Lou, that's why people go water cooled.  Generally you don't want to hold them before they burn up.  Ever call that TA185 guy?

Reply:lou; i just got a weldmark 150 amp air cooled torch and it get's hot also. do you have a problem with the gas line coming loose when it heats up? i'm thinking i should have gotten a 200 amp torch or splicing a heavier power cable to it.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Joe, no problem with the gas line on mine. For a cheapo chicom unit, it is holding up pretty well. I just was unfamiliar with how hot it would get. Mine is a sing hose/line to the torch. Argon and power go through the same hose.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Unless you plan on doing only low amp tig I would go ahead and get myself a 26 size torch. After a while you get used to the size and they last a lot longer when used with higher currents.Although it probably does not apply in your case even 26 size torches last 1-2days   when welders run them up to 260-270A welding the second and third passes on pipe as the threads seize up completely Running water cooled torches on site most of the times is not an option.
