I suspect at least one person will tell me the real solution is to get a "real" hood. And I get that, this one isn't my best hood or my only one, but I weld in more than one place, and I tend to keep my nicer one at home and bring the old beater out where its needed. The old beater is a northern tool auto darkening. I bought it ten years ago, and it just keeps doing what it needs to do, so I have no real drive to replace it.However, I occasionally would have a bad spatter day and need to replace the lens cover. I was never thrilled that it was plastic, but I saw the plastic ones for sale and figured it was no big deal.Anyway, I used my last lens cover last month, and when I went to try and pop a replacement in, all the replacements I have are about around 1/16" too tall to fit snugly into the slot.Wondering if anyone has run into this issue before, and if they found a good way to make this kind of tiny trim cut without messing up the lens covers.  I do know that northern sells cover packs, but they no longer sell the exact helmet I have, and I don't feel like buying an expensive set that might fit, but might not.
Reply:I would just sand it. Even if the edge is a little rough, it's going to be under the frame that holds it in. Just lay some sand paper down on something flat and go to town on one edge of the lens.
Reply:Dremel it off with the metal cut off blade that has teeth on it. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! HTP Invertig 400HTP Invertig 221HTP ProPulse 300HTP ProPulse 200 x2HTP ProPulse 220MTSHTP Inverarc 200TLP HTP Microcut 875SC
Reply:If its polycarbonate score and snap it, if its very close to an edge try scoring both sides and trim it off with a pair of tin snips.
Reply:Thanks for the ideas. I have to trim a bunch so I'll try all the methods and see if there is one that fits best for this.
