I had a guy ask if I would be able to make a metal and old barn wood desk................ptchaaaa yeah!!!!I added a angle iron and bolt detail (bolt is just welded to the square)I also used old roofing for a "vintage" effect.Made one so I might as well make two  I also shot some clear on it so no rust would flake offHere is the wood top. It is 100+ year old hemlock and oak with a glaze (the piece on top is a monitor stand). Here is the smaller desk with a cool lamp I made.
Reply:Looks great! If you don't mind me asking, what do you charge for something like this? How long did it take you to make?
Reply:very cool.  Well done!

Reply:Jaywood....I charge a materials plus labor rate for everything I do. The smaller desk is $1800 and the larger one is $2000.Robert Hall..the gear feet are from a machine that rotates cylinders into a drum on the big desk. The little desk feet are just some fencing decorative balls and a old rusty chain I had laying around. If it is old and rusty I probably like it!

Reply:Thanks all! I'm making a  sales counter that is very similar but with barn wood insets.  I'll put a picture when it is done .
Reply:Good job on the desk - looks great!Depending on your market the old rusty stuff sells for way more than the new shiny stuff these days. Take advantage of the opportunity

Reply:Nice job.  Nice detail.  It's rewarding to take old scrap and breath new life into it.
Reply:Really liking all the positive comments!  I am very lucky that I get to do what I love for a livingBeautiful work! What kind of finish is that on the barn wood? It looks thick like epoxy, please share the details!
Reply:Those are great...Just so happens I have a bunch of 3 x 1.5 left over from a barn build. I always look forward to using my drops for "fun" projects. I think you just gave me some great inspiration.... Nice work, love itLast edited by dcs13; 08-17-2014 at 08:38 AM.Reason: sp
Reply:The finish on the barn wood is a stain (home brew) and a glaze...goes on really thick like honey.  There are a couple places where I recessed the nails into the wood and you can look through the glaze and see the nails...looks really cool!
