The table is the welding project, but I failed to get any good "in progress" pictures of it. It's nothing fancy, just bolts to the front of the rotary punch. BUT... what it does is allow me to make templates for punching parts on a repeatable basis! Now I just need to measure once, drill out the template on the mill and then punch out parts anytime I like without any guess work. The templates are 1/8" aluminum and 1/4" dowel pins. I made a 7 minute video to help explain how it works. Attached Images
Reply:That just made your punch very handy. I do think I would trace where the plates being punch are supposed to lay, just in case you have someone else do it or you get tired and don't pay attention. I know I would need to do it.Also it's a shame you can not lower the stripper on the punch to keep from pulling the plate up.Again, great job.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Fantastic! Super good way to do repeatable holes. Put some clear coat over the templates so the sharpie ink doesn't wear off as quick.I've been making sheet metal templates for my products that lay over the stock that have small 1/8" holes that mark the hole position. I center punch the stock and then punch using a Roper Whitney hand punch. I want one of those rotex punches, they're sweet!
Reply:Great video. I Learned a lot.

Reply:Thanks guys. For the last couple years the punch has only been a great "conversation peice". Anyone that visits always asks "what's that thing". It does need a little TLC, as was noted above, it needs some "strippers" added back where they're missing and a couple of the smaller punches are broken. I beleive there's a place in NJ that sells replacement parts and punches for these units so it shouldn't be a problem getting it back to 100% functional again. Here's a picture of what the fuel pump package looks like. These pump/filter combos are used on the first generation Powerstroke trucks when converting from mechanical to electric fuel pump. Reply:Very nice. Yep, A stripper would make things even faster. Fortunately, there is no deformation. |
