Seems like the 1/8"  2% lanthinated tungstens stay sharper long when AC Tig Welding thin wall aluminum.Sure they cost twice that of the 3/32, but time is money. But it's got me wondering if there are any disadvantages of using a thicker than needed tungsten? And yes I did a search and browsed all 150 tungsten threads, couldnt' find the answers.
Reply:Theoretically more difficult start compared to a thinner tungsten and less focused arc.
Reply:Also oversized tungsten will tend to "spit" particles if its not nearing a molten state at the end. But all I have used is 2% thoriated and pure. so I cant say for sure about your case.
Reply:Sure. Just neck it down with a long tapered grind.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Where do you purchase your tungstens? Mine were the same between a 10 pack of 3/32 and 1/8 last I remember.

Reply:Thats the same place I get my stuff. Their filler isnt the "cheapest" i have found, but its aone stop shop, for consumeables and filler, and it only takes a day or two to ship to me. Great place to buy. And yes, on a 10 pack, i was a little off. It was 25 sonething for 3/32, and 30 something for the 1/8 th ten pack.
