pipe beveler

Fresh from finishing up a toolpost grinder fixture and a torch circle cutter, I think I am up for my next fixture. If you have seen a Mathey Dearman manual pipe beveler they are good, and I am about ready to drop a dime on one, then I got thinking could I build one?????Gears and handle no sweat, saddle same, but the circular gear????http://www.matheydearman.com/product...e-manual.shtmlAny ideas?I don't have a rotary table so cutting the rack is not an option...maybe would need a favor which I don't want to use.I only want a manual machine.Last edited by fredschrom; 12-26-2011 at 08:43 PM.Reason: add link
Reply:Flywheel ring gears/flex plates and starter gears are the obvious inspiration for that setup, and starter Bendixes come with shafts.
Reply:I agree with farmall, the flywheel gear would be the place to get that.  I think I would have to do the same thing, since my dividing head wouldn't swing 8"

Reply:Flywheel..?...?..*....*.....*....Brilliant, I hate welding cast but I need to stew on that idea, there are more than 1 ways to skin the cat and the right flywheel, and exchaning sleeves. Hmm.Need to ponder that but an light bulb just went on.Thanks
Reply:fredschrom, maybe think in terms of flex-plate used on automatic transmissions, these are steel and not cast iron. I believe that is where dualie was coming from. Best regards, Allanaevald
