I am not that familiar with the older Lincoln welders, and was told you need DC grinders to run off your machine. Can a inverter of some kind be installed to run AC tools?1990 SA 200Miller 225  Rip Miller302Miller 135Lincoln 200 MigHypertherm 600 PlasmaPlasma Cam Cutting TableMikita Cold SawJL Welding Tx . com

Reply:An inverter is a great upgrade to make to an SA-200.  The charging system/battery should handle a 1500 watt inverter no sweat. I plan to add one to mine. Gordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
Reply:As long as the grinder or drill or whatever is not variable speed, the DC on the SA 200 will not have a problem. Won't harm the machine or the tool, as a rule. Some of the cheapo brands have a problem with hand switch burnout though. Name brand tools have less of a problem.  Most of the uprades I've seen using the inverters used the 2500 watt. I DON'T know what needs to be done to the charging system, if anything to handle 2500 watts though.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:Like Gizzard said, don't plug up a variable speed drill, etc. and you shouldn't have any problems. When one of my handheld, corded tools need replacing, I always make sure and get a AC/DC tool, but I've got acouple AC corded tools that have been working off my SA just fine for awhile now.Hillbilly Fabworks

Reply:Originally Posted by NiteskyAssuming no losses, 2500 watts is 200 amps @ 12.8 volts (charging voltage).  Would want a bigger alternator than stock.  The battery would be OK.  Not sure I have faith in the single belt drive with minimal belt contact @ the alternator though.
Reply:Just a thought, but has anyone thought of driving a belt driven generator head off of the engine to supply AC Power?  You would have to build a bracket to the mount the generator head, but I would think it would be doable.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:As long as the power tool has a brush style motor, it should run on DC.
