Lincoln Short Hood

I discovered a lincoln short hood at a local auto grave yard, I didn't look it over that well at first cause it is in a state of some dissassembly but mostly there. It has been in the weather for some years. What are the odds it may run again and can parts still be had? Anybody know what motors were used or should be in there? Reply:Id go check it out more closely, if its got an f-162 continental engine parts are easily found and they're incredibly easy to work on. If its not a continental its probably an earlier model. Even if the engine isnt good if its all there and you can get it for cheap its good to keep for spare parts. Reply:What it is worth is directly tied to how much effort, time & money you have into it. If you can get it for the right amount of money, and are willing to invest another 12 to 15 hundred dollars to fix it up and paint it, you'll have a great welder. It depends on how bad you want one and what needs to be done to get it to that point.  A great many people happen to think that these are very excellent machines.  There again, as said in the earlier posts, there is money to be made selling parts off these machines to guys looking for them. First though, buy it and determine which option suits your efforts best. Reply:I'll check it out some more tomorrow. I would like to have and SA200 say mid 60's but will this one run much the same? Also I have read many posts on here about having them rewound. If the rotor were bad who would be able to rewind it and what might it cost. The engine I could likely do a complete rework if needed, as long as the crank isn't completely shot or something, How do I ID the f162 or 163 motors? Reply:Well , I went back to the yard today, The machine is in much worse shape than I first thought, missing the starter, radiator and support frame, exhaust manifold is half rotted off and must have let water in for years. Motor is froze and I can't really read the info on the plates. Carb and intake are there and look OK. Think it might be too far gone. Is it worth tracking down the parts or improvising to get the generator unit up running. Also the end cover is off the armature, just on the very end. It does however have the nub on the crank for a manual crank starter as well as a place to mount a starter. What is the best way to ID the engine block. Reply:Look at where the starter bolted up to, if its down low by the oil pan then its a f-162 if it bolted halfway up by the engine then its an f-163. There should also be a little black plate hopefully riveted onto the side of the block. Reply:Personally, it would be too far gone for my interests, unless I knew someone that had what I needed. A frozen motor is beyond my capabilities. I've seen threads and heard stories of people soaking them loose and rebuilding them, but that requires more funds and patience than I'm prepared to deal with. Ball's in your court, make a decision about what you want to do. Parts are available, if your looking for them, most are costly to say the least, and then there's the shipping, too. Some people see this as fun, and when I built my first Harley in the early '80s it was. Reply:Are there any test with meters that can be done to determine if the windings or armature and such is still salvageable.
