I recently bought a lincoln 200 sa welding machine. I talked to a lincoln rep about a switch for to install so if the machine was overheating it would shut off. He said they sold a switch like this for around 200 dollars but they had no installation instructions. I am not sure how to do this any advice would be appreciated.

Reply:Welcome to WeldingWeb Wshook81, If you post the control, we'll gang-up and figure out the wiring. But do you really need a Murphy on a welder?I can see the need for a shut-down on an engine which runs remote or unattended, but for a welder with an operator checking for coolant loss at least daily, and the machine within eyesight, I'm not so sure it's necessary. If the machine starts to need coolant top-off it'll be an advanced warning of trouble. If it suddenly gets hot, it'll probably be because of blown hose or tossed fan belt.A sudden failure would probably blow steam or cause misfire or rattle which would draw attention to the engine well before any further preventable damage occurs. If you're really worried about it, a simple hot light or alarm circuit would be very cheap, and give plenty of protection for an attended engine.I'm curious though; why the concern with overheating?Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 06-19-2009 at 10:34 PM.
Reply:I do plan to run the machine by remote so i wold like to have some sort of indication if the machine is overheating. a warning light would be ok. guess i just want to feel a little more secure about it. I dont want the water pump to go out and lose the motor.
Reply:Can someone explain what this Murphy thing is?
Reply:Temp reaches certain amount kills engine, same with oil pressure.
Reply:Buy an automotive temp sender for some 60's or 70's car with an idiot light.Run the wire from the temp sender to the kill wire terminal on your mag.Heat goes up, switch closes, shorts the points, and kills the engine.you can do the same with the oil pressure sender, but you need a bypass switch to get it started until the oil pressure builds.Temp switch part # TU-46 at Autozone $8.99Last edited by joethemechanic; 06-20-2009 at 11:36 PM.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
