Finally finished the stupid gate panels.  Seems like it took forever.  Lot of other stuff going on I guess.Pretty simple As usual, something went wrong, always doesWelded up the tubing, then fit the diagonal brace.  Then it dawned on me that I hadn't checked it for square before fitting the brace  The heat had pulled the gate frame 1/4" out of square.  AND IF FIND THIS OUT, NATURALLY, AFTER FITTING THE DIAGONAL  Little trueing with some shrinking, and I'm back in greazed grooves.BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Little fill work, and back on trackMore to come if the internet connection holds up"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Only you, and your hairdresser, will ever knowHinges are sorta interesting. The barrels (DOM tubing) are attached to the tabsThen another tab is attached to the gate frame  The extra piece of metal at an angle to the tab is to spread the load over the 14ga tubing so there's no tear outAfter all this is attached, then the hinge pin is installed.  I like to use a full length piece to keep the hinge barrels lined up perfectlymore to come, internet's holding good"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Simply cut the cold roll, and you have perfectly lined up hingesI was using 7018AC for the short welds, but ran into some problems.  The AC rod doesn't have enough arc force to properly fill a deep groove in one pass, it takes 2 passes to do the jobSwitched over to 7018 Excalibur on DC, and was done in one pass  DC will blow the filler into the cavity, whereas AC simply deposits the metal relatively close to the rod end.  I like 3/32 for this because I can really get the rod up in there tight, remember this is a horizontal weld with a goodly sized gap, and you want good heat at the root"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Glued the cattle panel to the frame (I know I shoulda used 3-4" long welds, but just couldn't bring myself to do it)  I like to work from the center out.  The piece of tubing weights the panel down to weldSome small welds to keep heat at a minimum, but still PLENTY STRONG (ya MORON)And it turns out nice and flat, square, etc............Now I gotta get K'kins off her butt, and have her dig the post holes"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:This ain't gettin' my dump truck done, or other crap done, but have to do it to keep the dog in.Was a lot easier when he was this smallWas a real good crapper when he was a tiny pup, now he's an even better crapper at 70lbs (and still a pup).  Leaves veritable crap mountains all over the yard"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Nice job as usual Samm. I don't think I've seen the white furball before. Only the little black and white one you had..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
