We got some new wire in the shop and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the stuff. We normally run solid wire and TIG, but some .045 core wire came in and I'm just wondering if it always runs kinda crappy. I was running it on argon/co2, 26.5v, 260ipm for horizontal, which seemed to do best. But it liked to randomly spit from time to time. Also, the top of the weld would have random spots that did not fill-in. So I would have to grind back down to those points, which turned into a lot more welding that should be. I've run plenty of 316 and 309 s.s. dual shield in the past, and this stuff runs like crap compared to that stuff.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:I've run some duplex stainless steel flux core before; but not that particular wire from select arc.  I have used their 2209 flux cored wire.  What you have their is a "super" duplex formula.  That 'miss' or scalloping on the top edge happened to me too.  Try a little up and down wiggle or weave while welding.  The puddle is sluggish with these alloys and you need to help it along a bit by putting the heat of the arc where you want the weld metal to go.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
