i want to make a cover for my welder when not in use...I live in the north east and my barn gets condensation in it at times.....i can see 2 options and pro's and con's of eacha cotton type cover that will wick the moisture away from the welder but it would hold the moisture against the side and top cover and may speed rust to there but hopefully keep the internals drythe other would be a cover that repels moisture...some sort of plastic, but this type wouldn't allow moisture from the welder to evaporate and keep the internals wetso any other options or better ways?  i dont use my welder everyday and can go a month without using them so i wanted to keep them covered when not in use
Reply:No matter what, your welder will become a haven for critters. As long as the roof don't leak and not much rain/snow blows in, the best you can do is put a dust cover over it to protect the paint. It will rust!Taking one's toys out and playing with them will at least put a film of exhaust fallout and oil on some parts. Keep things painted and out of the weather. And use 'em to prevent seizing!Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:I live in the North West, you might have heard it rains here sometimes. So a lot of condensation at times. I’ve walked in my shop. and it looked like it rained in there. What I use is plastic table cloths, with material on one side. I drape them over every welder, and plasma cutter when not in use.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Depending on what kind of welder you have you can use a large grill cover they sell on amazon or walmart. I have a small boat cover that I use for my stuff when it is in the back of the truck. These are usually made out of denier (woven polyester) way better than cotton, water proof/ water resistant and they are breathable.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300

Reply:CEP.... how long have you been using the table cloth covers? seems like it would want to not let the underside breath and dry out? I have seen similar condensation at my place...I've opened my tool box and seen my tools soaked, sucks to see your things slowly being ruined

Reply:Don’t make the same mistake I did! By having your wife pick up the table cloths when she goes to the store.  Attached ImagesDon’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Man, you guys are thinking way too hard.   Home Depot, BBQ covers.  Even if you have a hole in the roof, water is repelled off and away from your equipment.  I cover not only welders, but an air compressor, chop saw, cold cut saw, and a movable (casters) multi-shelved rack containing  all of my consumables.  My 216 and Buzzbox are stored under one cover alone because I bought a large size for them.  Likewise, my 211 and cold cut saw are under another shared cover. They are less than $20 and come in various sizes.Last edited by SuperArc; 12-11-2015 at 04:06 PM.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member

Reply:I use packing blankets, their between 5 and 10 bucks, about the right size, readily availible and add some impact protection. Not good for outdoors.
