These questions are in reference to welding sch. 40, from 1" up to 2" aluminum pipe (6003 series) using 5356 and 4043 filler. I sometimes get dimples in the center of my beads and I'm not sure why? How do I go about correcting this?I have had a problem with cracks in the center of the bead traveling the same direction of the bead. What causes this and how do I keep it from happening?Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
Reply:It sounds like too much molten metal at one time. The filler is shrinking as it cools. So much that it cracks under the strain.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:Add more rod, and add more rod.Cracks can result from insufficient reinforcement. Dimples? Are you pumping the pedal to much and adding not enough rod?Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:What size filler rod are you using?
Reply:What Shovelon said. Sometimes more is more. Also, as you finish your bead, back off very slowly, keep adding rod, and back up just a bit and you should see the pit going away.Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
Reply:Even heat, dab fast. If you pump the pedal and go too far with each dab you'll get "end" craters halfway visible on each ripple.SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
