Pancake welding hoods

I got a outside pipe welding job coming up here next month.  I was told I better have a pancake hood.  Now I always use my miller ultra ellite daily outside when welding on bridges.  But they insist on me having a pancakeEveryone has heard of wendy's pancakes http://www.wendyspancakes.netBut I also found Sarge's pancakes http://pancakehelmets.com/Now after talking to a few pipeliners about pancake hoods all i got for answers depending on who i was talking too where: both are junk, both are great, who the hell is wendy, who the hell is sarge, and you don't need a stupid pancake hood you need a jackson pipeliner hood.So my question to everyone is who's brand of pancake helmit do your own? Reply:I don't know about Wendy but I own a sarge built hood and love it. Buy it from plwelders. com good gal owns it.. Plus get the deer or elk hide strips makes a perfect fit. Reply:Get the california model.  Its missing the strap to go around head and has a dildo mouthpiece instead. You don't need no stinking pancake to weld pipe.

Reply:Hummm... I weld outside for a living too and glare has never been an issue. Anyways pancakes are illegal with the company I work with.

Reply:The company I work for banned them because people have a tendency not to wear safety glasses under them and when they lift up the pancake they or their helper start grinding and a few eye injuries occured. Also most of the refineries and plants we work in require hardhat hoods.

Reply:I am working on making one now, welding outside with the sun at your back with an open hood sucks, never nind the 6010 BB's in your ear when your under a pipe in some godforsaken position. Reply:Arc-one and/or Miller make lenses that fit in a pancake.  I have a pancake, although I've never used it.  Picked it up...well, not sure why, never know right?  But when I need an auto, I use an arc one lense, which isn't often.  Most of the time I use an Aethermal lense.Back in my fencing days (fencing as a sport, not fencing fencing!), one of the guys painted his mask bright yellow with a happy face on it...I would love to see a pancake done up with a happy face!
