I apologize for the cheesy plans, but they are some simple plans for a project that I will be doing in our advanced welding class.  I and a few others plan to take some projects to quite a few ag mech shows, and this is one that we hope to take to Dallas in January.  Was hoping that I can get a lot of input from what kind of metal for what, adjustments that may make for a better size (other than the height of the stand height, I want it to be at a good height for a box blind), to what materials I should use for insulation, flooring, walls, and some small stuff that will impress everyone that comes across it.  Thanks!!Trash talk stops when the hood dropsDon't cry because it's over, smile because it happened
Reply:Concerning the base structure, I would highly recommend designing it so you will have little waste of material. I wouldn't go any larger than 4x6 on the blind unless you have some sort of special needs issue.Take a look at this thread.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...for-Deer-BlindMillerMatic 212, Lincoln Precision TIG 225, Hypertherm 45XP
Reply:I agree with Kaos on material waste. IF you are not committed to specific dimensions I would base measurements on material lengths avaiable . If 20' lengths figure 10' legs, if you can only acquire 4' X 8' sheets, maybe consider platform size to be 8' X 8'.   Are you gonna get a crane to set it in place ?
Reply:Looks like a good start, I just finished re-skinning a blind for a buddy. Check out Deer-View Windows, local Texas boys and a nice product. Super easy install and they are leaps and bounds over using plexiglass.Go through and lay out the frame so the plywood skin goes on without a bunch of waste. This frame was already done by someone else and I had a ton of scrap leftover because of the goofy size and the way they laid it out.   Last edited by amusick; 10-05-2014 at 11:11 PM.
Reply:Also, I would plywood the floor for two reasons. One, being that high it's gonna be hard to keep warm late season with the cold wind blowing up under you. Two, it's always noisy, especially when you need to move a chair.Don't forget to slope the roof, gotta have somewhere for that water to go.Last edited by amusick; 10-05-2014 at 11:05 PM.
Reply:Small tube can take a lot of weight in compression, but tends to buckle if unsupported over long lengths. If you are trying to keep weight down, you'll probably want to go with some sort of truss type leg vs just a single steel pipe. That way the truss braces the material and cuts down the unsupported lengths. 2nd option when trying to stiffen long lengths is to go with wide diameter material. 6" thin wall tube will resist bending more than say 2" solid, even if the weight is the same..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Transportation and setup issues for both Ag Mechanic Shows and field use would drive my design. Wheels, winches, pivot points, latches, safety, ease of setup and functionality will impress the judges and future owner.I've always enjoyed the Ag Mech shows, a lot of talented young men and women out there.  Good luck Catfish, think it through and show us those blue ribbons!
Reply:Wish I could post up some pics of Don's new blind, but what goes on in the Pit stays in the PitSuffice it to say, it exceeds our standards..................................................  ........................................The roof on the OP's blind is slanted to run the rain off, look at the pics a little closer"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Well, I think it's slanted"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
