Looking at getting a TIG for my garage. Never done TIG before but can't wait!!Looking at the miller Diversion 180 or Lincoln Square Wave 200. Which one and why?
Reply:The bigger machine. Any ideas what you wanna weld?do yourself a favor and get your self a 336 tank and a nice regulator. It will save you time and money real quick
Reply:I want to weld roll cages, gates, bumpers for the quads. You know fun stuff
Reply:What's a 336 tank?
Reply:336 cubic foot argon tank - biggest you can get and about 5' tall and 10" in diameter. I would actually suggest you get something a bit smaller, like a 125/150cf (4/5ft tall, 7" diameter) if this is just a hobby working in your own garage/shop. The 125/150cf tanks are cheaper up front cost if you are going to buy your own tank, and they are the most cost effective to refill short of going to the larger tanks. The smaller tanks are a lot lighter too when it comes to getting them into the bed of a truck or backseat of a car to go and get them filled.I would vote for the Lincoln Squarewave 200. More power, better duty cycle, more features, etc.Last edited by njs552; 12-16-2015 at 12:06 AM.1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan

Reply:Did you get 2 pounds of filler or just one?i think I pay 6$ and 10$ for harrison 312 super missle rod
Reply:Just 1 lb. I don't get the best prices on filler. Just curious, but what would you use the Super missile rod on? I've heard roll cage guys talk it sometimes, but that's about it.1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan
Reply:You can use it for almost all steel and its way better then 309 rod. Etched and bentLast edited by motolife313; 12-16-2015 at 12:57 AM.
Reply:To me part of the beauty of a TIG machine is that you can also stick weld with it. Some people think that's old fashioned but it's the process I learned many moons ago and it's what I'm most comfortable with. The fact that the Diversion 180 is one of the few machines out there that WILL NOT stick weld is enough reason for me to get the Lincoln instead.Dirk
Reply:On my lincoln precision tig 225 I don't even have to strike an arc. I can hi freq it with the foot pedal then control the amps with it too. To bad a dont stick weld very much tho. I wanna start sense I work for a excavation company and the welder is pretty bad. He says he works for the union but I don't believe him because all his 7018 and mig welds look like such bubble gum welds

My cost seems pretty low compared to some and I have no account, just a cool owner that gives me deals. 150 cubic foot tank is I think 45$ or I think 50$ too fill and a 336 is 65$. And you take it in way less saving time and not as many works out getting it in the car or truck. Truck is a little more tricky. Last 336 I exchanged came with 2600 psi. Most 280 and smaller tanks only have 1800/2200 psi. Actually my tank had 2800 psi lol
Reply:Nice, smart move. That's pretty cheap a year. I just paid for mine and got it out of the way. 50$ to fill is a excellent deal!welding shops are cool like that, they know how too get your attention
Reply:So what welder lol?
Reply:Oh yeah Went with the Lincoln Square Wave 200The price was right but doesn't come in for 4-6 weeks, which is fine. Thanks again
Reply:Cool! Get you self nice nice clean pieces of aluminum too practice with. 1/8" or thicker. And get stuff atleast 2" x 6" size pieces or else they will get really hot and that's no fun. Then you need mask and gloves and that's about it. |
