O/A Welding Stainless Steel

Folks, I'm going to make a couple is small simple O/A welds on a piece of 3/16 stainless rod.  Not sure what 'type' of stainless.  This is NOT a critical or structure weld.Can I use another small piece of stainless to use for the filler?Do I have to use any flux?Thanks in advance,
