Reply:the arms were machined. I dont have any dies i blew my wad getting the arms machined. Their machined from 5/8 plate.
Reply:I know your on a budget But i would have went for a 100 volt two stage hydraulic pump a tank and a standard ram with a regular control valve for greater speed and controlYou know that that is going to be slow and not much power not to mention a constantly running compressor to drive you crazyNot that it won't work don't get me wrongBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me What would SATAN do ?? Reply:looks like a jd2 bender.. i have a drawing of arms like those someone posted on pirate 4x4,also have drawings for a pro-tools style arms, the takac cycles plans and i also have a drawing of a bender i designed using the harbor freight cylinder mounted vertical.. good job. how much did they charge you to machine the arms? a hint, mount a return spring or 2 on it makes it easier.Last edited by brucer; 08-14-2011 at 09:45 PM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Friend of mine cnc em for 150. I spent about 30 on the material the cylinder was 70 so I'm in for 250 once I get pins prolly be in it 300 or so.

Reply:Really ya think 150 was too much for all 4 arms? Drilling all those holes etc the computer work to setup the machine and all that I thought it seemed fair really. I know you can buy one for 300 but I really can't afford just to drop 300 in one shot at the moment but a little at a time I can afford.

Reply:It was is own machine he has a old converted bridgeport in his garage. I dunno, besides, buying one takes all the sport outta it lol and I basically built this one so +1 for pride in your work which is something that is lacking in this country anymore.

Reply:That's encouraging to me. The west coast is up a creek without a paddle esp in oregon. Nobody is willing to hardly pay more than 10 dollars an hour in the willamette valley. And you defenitley won't get bennys on top of that. I'm bustin my hump trying to drum up anykinda work I can get but so far I haven't made a penny.
Reply:the biggest thing you have to look at is if there is enough of a business for it in your area.. there are 2 tracks within 30miles of me and several tracks within 1 1/2 hrs of me so these were always people needing/wanting work done... the economy right now will play a big part on your work load.. i have 2 auto mechanic friends that are having a rough time right now because no one is spending money on their vehicles or they are doing the work themselves to save money.. i didnt even venture into the 4wd market when i was doing cages and tubbing stuff, i'm sure there was more business there, but i didnt want it.. paint and bodywork is a good trade to be in also... the people i know who are doing it as a business are raking in the money..Last edited by brucer; 08-16-2011 at 12:55 AM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:also if and when you start doing cage work and or such, you better have a written, signed and dated contract, if any changes are made during the time your working on said vehicle or project have whoever sign off on approval and price and date it.. and dont let it leave your property until your paid in full, friend or not.Last edited by brucer; 08-16-2011 at 01:32 AM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:So I finally saved up for some dies for this machine and the awesome cylinder quit working before it even bent any tubing so now im a bit bummed out! thats what i get for being a cheap bastard. So now i dunno what im gonna do besides dropping about 1300 for a full hydro setup.
Reply:$1300!!! Go take a look over on the Surplus Supply site and figure out how much you'll need to spend for a hydraulic pump, some hose, tank, control valve and hydrualic cylinder and build you own setup. It should be significantly less money.EDIT: What went wrong with your air over hyd, cylinder? Was it from laying on its side? Might be able to remedy the problem by moving the hydraulic portion with a couple of ells or hose.Came up with my own hydraulic setup for my Hossfeld using cheap parts and a mine surplused hydraulic power unit.
