Hypertherm 45 and Compressor

Well, I received my Hypertherm 45 on Friday and have been using it a ton.  I have quickly found that my air compressor is not up to handling the job.  It is an old 33 gallon Craftsman (re-badged Devilbliss) that supposedly puts our 6.5cfm at 90psi.  Well, I have not found that to be the case.  It has seen some heavy use over the years, so I guess I've gotten my money's worth.  I have been reading a bunch of old air compressor threads on WW, and it seems that a Quincy is in order.  Only thing is, I have purchased a good bit of equipment lately (Hypertherm 45, Lincoln PM255, and a Milwaukee dry cut saw).  But, I sold my other welder, plasma cutter, and chop saw, as well as did some "horse trading."  So, the out of pocket expense is not that bad.  I guess I will wait a month or two before getting a Quincy or my wife my divorce me

Reply:You may be able to do a cheap rebuild on the old one.  I rebuilt a Quincy for less than $30 for my son, got almost twice the old performance.  Check with your local compressor folks for some advice before you give up on the old one.  Springs and reed wear out and get dirty....
