I have one of these compartments in my utility body for pipe storageTrouble is, with all the different sizes, types, unistrut, cut pieces etc is sometimes gets pretty hard to get at what I need:So I have a pile of 3/16" strips 4 inches wide and thought I'd bend up about 5 or 6 of these:Then I will fasten some angle to the top and make a tray with expanded metal to hold all the cut pieces, unistrut and ground rods. My concern is to have enough support so that it won't lean one way or the other. I plan to weld in a cross to strengthen them and provide separation for different types like this:Question is, will this be enough to hold them somewhat in their original shape with all the weight and road bouncing? The next pic show another idea, to add some pieces in the corners to help strengthen them. The yellow lines show where they will get support from the surrounding utility body: (sorry the red line on the right also supports that entire side) so basically it will be "nested in" 3 inches up on the left and all the way up on the right.Any suggestions welcomed.Last edited by bigb; 10-12-2014 at 09:46 PM.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:I think that the separate "hoops" will be a pain to "thread" your stock into. And especially frustrating when in a hurry, such as when pulling a piece out to check it, quick like.I vote for something full-length. Maybe even "pull out able" such as large PVC, eave trough, cable tray, something on that order.Maybe your proposed divider design with open-top trays? The trays would support shorts too, which otherwise will slide to Neverland.Last edited by denrep; 10-12-2014 at 10:04 PM.
