I'm guessing these 3 ads are from the same person and probably a scammer. Opinions?http://columbus.craigslist.org/fod/5364642222.htmlhttp://columbus.craigslist.org/fod/5364279021.htmlhttp://columbus.craigslist.org/fod/5353686683.htmlI ought to email or text him and ask what the address is because I want to come try it out. I'm not in the market for one, it just irritates me to see scammer ads on CL. Maybe they're legit but I doubt it.
Reply:Typical CL spammer. I see them down here often. I have made some good deals on CL and it is annoying when people abuse it. Up to the rest of us to keep them in check.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=556081Sent from my XT1080 using TapatalkInvertec 350 Pro LN-25 (2)Hobart Mega-Arc 350D
Reply:I'm curious because I don't use CL, but how does one get scammed in this situation?   With CL, doesn't the "buyer" meet the "seller" in person to do the money exchange?  Doesn't the seller bring the product with him to the exchange?   I'm just wondering how people get scammed on CL?  I can see it if someone sends the money blindly FIRST with an understanding that the product will get "delivered"  at a later date, but that method of buying/selling with two private parties and over the Internet  is just foolish. Reply:Yeppers. It's a scam.Refer to the scam thread posted awhile back. There is no machine, there never is. It's just a variation of a 419 scam.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ht=Bobcat+scamLast edited by 7A749; 12-18-2015 at 12:32 PM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948

Reply:I just sent him a message: "What's the address where I can see the welder? I'd need to try it out before buying it." I wonder what he'll say or if he'll even answer. An option if he says it's in storage somewhere: "I'll buy it if you send it COD and it works when it gets here". I'll bet no response to that one.I flagged one of them twice a few days ago but they appeared again almost immediately. I wish there was some way to remove him but there doesn't appear to be. I hate to see those ads floating out there for the naive and unaware to lose money on.

Reply:Flagging didn't work, I wish it would. You may be right about the email but I have a special email I use just for CL and gmail is pretty good with spam filters. If he actually does answer, I won't respond further. I could hardly resist though, I just wanted to see his song and dance. :-)
Reply:Same machine, now in Philadelphiahttps://philadelphia.craigslist.org/fod/5357400249.htmlA quick way is to google something like "craigslist+like new miller bobcat" and see how many hits and how wide spread they are. Attached Images
Reply:I tried your suggestion, OMG! https://www.google.com/search?q=crai...utf-8&oe=utf-8That scam must really work well.

Reply:Don't try to toy with scammers or test them.  They do this all day - every day as their full time occupation.  They will just ignore you, or worse, as stated above, they may use your contact info to get to you. They flood CL and Ebay with hundreds of these offers, probably using hundreds of different user accounts.  I'm guessing they don't get any suckers on 98% of these ads, but for the 2% that do bite, it keeps them in business. Also, it is most likely that these scammers are off-shore, so are immune to our law enforcement.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300

Reply:Yeah I often thought about trying to grab 1 of those deals at 1500 just for the use of the generator. welding they suck. but at 10-11000 whats that's good for the house or the plasma.
Reply:I often get replies to buy stuff I have on sale on there, short hood. and I'm working in california I'll send you a check and my movers will come get it. well I'm waiting for the movers to show up and say we're here for it because I never got a check or paid, and by the way I live next to a gun club, it was just an unfortunate accident....

Reply:3 cheers for anyone who has the balls and time to do it. Won't accomplish anything except annoy them and provide laughs for some of us but at least that's something.

Reply:It is a fact. Most ppl who get scammed are aware of the risks, but are so wrapped up in circumventing paying the price like everyone else does that they fail to use common sense when they really need to.The lure of being that one lucky guy to get something expensive super cheap outweighs the fact that the scam is so obvious, most anyone knows it's BS as soon as they see it. It's almost always the guy who's looking for something for nothing who gets screwed. And sadly to say, in most cases they deserve exactly what they get.IMHO of courseExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:The scammer never replied to my question. In a way I didn't expect it - I didn't sound like the type of person he was after. On the other hand, I wondered if he'd try to talk me into his scheme and was curious about what he'd say.Pretty much what was already said above. The machine will be at a freight company, ready to ship, or in storage where inspection prior to the sale will be impossible. There will be some story about the owner deployed overseas and needs extra money, or it belonged to a sick relative who was supposed to freight it somewhere, or is in storage and the bill is behind, and/or conveniently died, leaving this poor soul to deal with their belongings. They just want to get rid of it since they don't know much about it. It's your lucky day! You're helping one of America's servicemen, etc, etc, etc.If you insist you have someone "close by" who can come check it out, they will either tell you some further reason why the machine cannot be accessed, or will stop responding to you all together. You want to be careful, I've seen scam artists send ppl on wild goose chases sometimes hundreds of miles away, only to end up at some industrial park on the bad side of East St Louis in the middle of the night. Whatever the case, the deal will always be that you will not be able to see the machine or meet the person who is supposedly selling it. You will always have to send payment by electronic means, and will never be able to pay cash. This scam has been around for a long time and there are entire rings of ppl working them, posting hundreds of scam ads a day in various cities around the US.They aren't going to waste much time on someone who is on to what they're up to. They're looking for the person who is thinking they're getting the deal of a lifetime, not one trying to corner them into admitting what they're doing.IMHO of courseLast edited by 7A749; 12-19-2015 at 10:21 AM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:I wasn't going to follow up at all, just have a good irritated chuckle at his scam attempts. Sadly though, it works. Otherwise they'd quit and move on to something else. I couldn't believe how many of the same posts were on different Craigslists and other similar sites when I did that Google search.
Reply:Yeah, I've seen their stories. Usually a carbon copy of a few different variations. It pisses me off too, but the best you can do is flag it and move on.The 419 email scams are indeed ludicrous and some of the stuff they say is beyond funny. They'll say damn near anything to get in your pocket.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Originally Posted by Rock knockerThe typical way is that the seller will respond that they are out of the area, and you can pay by Pay-Pal or Amazon, and that there are built in protections for the buyer. They have a way around that. These people will almost always respond that the item is already at a freight company, normally owned by a relative.
Reply:Just remember there was an old couple going to buy an old car off the list and they were found scammed and dead.  some scammers play for keeps so meeting them can be dangerous. Be careful
Reply:Originally Posted by StelthYep.  I responded to this guy when he was advertising in SoCal, and he said it was in Texas, crated and ready.  He, of course, worked on a cruise ship, so he couldn't be around to do the deal.  I was going to ask if I could just come pick it up, but I didn't feel like playing games with this jerk.  Oh, yeah, he was going to get payment through setting up a private auction on ebay.
Reply:I swear I have sold mine for a hundred bucks today!!! It has less then 80 hours on it and has given me nothing but grief since new, even after talking to the Miller rep. twice since last week.
Reply:They have the same scam in Yuba Sutter.  I just put four items on Craigslist and am getting contacted by scammers on all of them, even though they are in the $100 range.  I can't figure out how they make their money, They all want a mailing address for a deposit, swearing someone else will come pick up the machine with the balance.  I don't know how they get money, but I don't respond. I only craigslist stuff that is to heavy for EBay.
