McP Pty Ltd ANVIL Information?

I just picked up this Anvil at Garage Sale. I'm interested in its age and any history about 'McP Pty Ltd". Net searches has not come up with much information at all.The lower steel is very 'Pitted'. However, the Horn seems to be in great condition. Is it worth repairing the pitted steel by welding over it, and grinding it back?Cheers,Mick Attached ImagesI have 3 Kids and no money... Reply:You might post those pictures over on Iforgeiron.com and see if any of those guys recognize it. There are a bunch of smiths from Oz that post there, so if it's an Aussie anvil they might recognize it.I wouldn't mess with the base. It really won't effect the use of the anvil. The top and horn are clean, and those are the important areas. Looks like a nice anvil. Congrats..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Welding on an anvil is about the fastest way to ruin it, in most cases.Just use it.

Reply:Wow!That is cool anvil. The pitting gives it old school character. Don't think it affects performance on bit. Welding it would take that away. Reply:I don't know what others do but after wire brushing mine off with the grinder I wiped it down with Fluid Film. That was a few months ago and it still looks okay. Terry
