Hey,I made up several joints of 1/2 in sq tube brazed together in pairs with a 45degree miter on the joint.  (Like a not compound scarf joint). This was to test a bunch of different brazing rod/flux pairs and some were bad, others would bendthe steel before failing and one of them, and one nickel silver rod bent all the way past 90 degrees without failing.I want to use this stuff for some furniture like things I'm making.I don't think "nickel silver" rod usually has any silver in it.  I think (but don't know) that it'ssomething like AWS RB CUZN-Dbecause what I can find about that alloy seems to indicate it's really stout.  I like really stout.Walmart (no kidding) claims 70K psi for RBCUZND-063-10T but it's flux coated and 250$ per box, probably about 30#.  I'd like one pound to try the stuff out first.Anyone know where I can get a small quantity of same?  50# at 14$/pound is the best I've beenable to locate from some Airgas site, for Harris alloy 170.Also quite open to other recommendations for something to gas braze mild steel that's near weld strength.ThanksLast edited by mman; 12-29-2015 at 09:51 PM.
Reply:Lucas-Milhaupt certainly makes what you need:http://www.lucasmilhaupt.com/en-US/p...illermetals/1/I had the pleasure of chatting with one of their reps at a trade event and he was extremely pleasant and forthcoming with information. If they won't sell directly to you, I'm certain they'll point you to someone who will.-Chris

Reply:@ mman - contact these guys in OH, GasFlux and see if their GF-72 filler fits the bill.  UTS 80ksi."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:This is where I get it. The flux works great and rinses off almost as easily as silver brazing flux.http://cycledesignusa.com/wp/?page_id=298Mike ZanconatoZanconato Custom Cycles @mzank on Instagram

Reply:Hey guys,Thanks very much for all the info.  I think the cycle design stuff is what I tried and which worked so well (borrowed a rod from a fellow metal hacker)even though we still don't know what actual alloy that is.I'll try some of the other stuff mentioned as well - great resources, thanks again.mLast edited by mman; 01-03-2016 at 10:31 PM.
