I am trying to build a weight training tower that would hole a punching bag/ropes and rings and whatnot.Problem is its 5' x 4' wide so it won't fit through a doorway and needs to be collapsible. This is literally just a big 2" by .125 wall square tube frame nothing complicated.Whats the best way to have a break that bolts together in the middle of the sections? I was thinking of plug welding a piece of 1.75" round pipe inside the 2" pipe as a coupling.Or should I just make the entire cross section a bolt on piece at the both of its ends and not weld it to the uprights at all?I am basically making one of these but taller
Reply:I think you answered your own question. Bolt on the cross pieces at the top and the piece at the bottom as shown in the picture. As Zap said "We don't have to weld everything". Good advice.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com

Reply:Not sure why I didn't just do it how all the mass produced ones are mad to begin with... brain fart.Anyway heres what I came up with. Does it seem like a safe design? I added the extra 3/4 height cross pieces because mine is almost 10' tall as opposed to a 6 or 7 foot one like the photo above. It isn't being used as a squat rack either as much as I would like it to be, I don't have the ability or patience to drill 40 3/4" holes.Attachment 830751Attachment 830761Attachment 830771
Reply:Build the thing you pictured...it's all bolted together. Welding is not always the best or even a smart way of joining metal things together.Last edited by MikeGyver; 09-04-2014 at 11:06 AM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
