Been working on this.  Just need to put my big handle on it and it's good to go.(3) 4' long 3x3x1/4" angle iron(2) 5/8" bolts (grade 5 what I had)(1) 10" black pipe(2 sets) nut, washers, 1/2"x3" bolts (grade 8) Setting edge of top piece to drill bolt holesMade my hinge pins from the 5/8" bolt.  Cut 10" pipe to three pieces for each bolt.  Grind weld seam with dremel.  You could probably ream it.Hinge has to be centeredMeasure and cut notches in all three pieces.  Then weld up pipe.  If I were to do this differently I would have tried welding with the folder piece at the finished 90* instead of flat from the starting position.  Put a pin in the three piece and put it in place.  Otherwise you'll have hell trying to get it to line up.Last edited by Monica; 09-17-2011 at 07:38 PM.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand
Reply:Weld hinge pipe (I know I know, it's all wrong, ugly and will fail as soon as a mosquito lands on it)"Does it work" test with the only thing I had ready to bend.  I drew that line AFTER it was in the break to find a reference. Here, get to workLast edited by Monica; 09-17-2011 at 08:17 PM.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand
Reply:Since you are using the rounded angle iron edges you are going to get a "rolled" break. Is that on purpose? Do you like that over a nice clean sharp brake?

Reply:That's really cool Monica, thanks for sharing. What do you have for clear space between bolts for bending, about 3'? Was the max thickness of sheet bendable limited by the hinge placement? I notice there are 3 angle's total in the brake, but I can't figure out what the top most table mounted angle is for.

Reply:You got the math right I think the limiter for thickness will be the lever, and the angle. Likely the angle (bottom) (pusher angle) will bend in the middle if you try to bend too thick a piece.  You end up with a cool curved bend, or the hinge snaps. The lever might bend too.  All fixable and all fun.
Reply:Looks good Monica.  I can't wait to see your finished project. Is it a tool box?  I didn't see if you said.
Reply:monica, in reference to what fb said a few posts up.. you can add a piece of angle on the backside of the bending piece that will have your handle on it to keep it from bowing on you... if your angle is 2inch, use a piece of say 1 1/2 a turn it opposite and stitch weld it the length ... make sure it stays straight as you do your welding, it will stiffen it up quite a bit.. i added somewhat of a sketch to give you a better idea, i've also seen people add multiple layer using like 1 inch angle, then 1 1/2 angle.. Reply:hi monica good thread. when i built my brake, very similar to yours, i went through  what you're showing, the hinge has to be in just the right spot..also went through several repairs and redesigns to make it stronger..ended up with a piece of 1/2" x 4"  for the piece that holds the workpiece down.. because as fat bastard mentions it wants to bend..this is a piece of 10 ga 30" wide ... Reply:I hope to God this has already been thought-of, but how are you going to bend all four sides of a drawer?  Won't the top angle iron clamp prevent you from getting the 3rd and 4th sides bent?  Maybe my imagination is failing me, but I can't see how that'll work.PS If you are short on material, a few steel right triangles with 3" legs can be welded into your movable element as gussets, and they will shore it right up.__David Hillman

Reply:Cool, that video explains a lot. Thanks for posting it.
Reply:Originally Posted by MonicaGood pic, thanks.  I only have a couple more 4' pieces of the 3x3 angle iron (nothing smaller).  I do have a 2"x3/16"x3' strap on the shelf.  Would that work as support in lew of angle iron?  (Just so I don't have to go buy material, closest place now is 45min away.  Or go overpay at Lowes )
Reply:heres a pic of one i built last winter..  i added the lift springs as an afterthought, so i had to modify the hinge so it would go over 90..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:Monica, it took me some time to figure it out also, David cut a 45 v notch into the wood and that traps a shorter piece of angle. The angle is forced down and acts as the brake edge, just like in the video except you can only really see it in one of David pics, barely on the bottom in red.David, I know you ended up bolting your brake edge (? don't know if thats what its called) directly through the table, but that means that you have to take it apart each time to do complex shapes. Have you given thought to a split nut? I was just thinking that perhaps it would be easier to tilt the split nut open, slide it up the threaded rod, reseat it and repeat on the other side, that way you can quickly make the odd shapes without losing much time.

Reply:Sorry about the pics.  I hit a bandwidth limit.  Anyway, the brake is bending 16ga.  Here's a vid of the test strap.  I also ran a 30" wide piece that the press brake handled as well.  Might not have to groove after all unless I want less work and sharper bends.  Otherwise I'm on my way.http://img692.imageshack.us/flvplayer.swfLast edited by Monica; 09-27-2011 at 04:17 PM.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand

Reply:Thanks Brucer Old Doug, I'm making some 16 ga tools drawers.  Here's a shot of the first one I fiddled with this afternoon.  I'll have eight of these big drawers (26x19) and two smaller ones (20x20).Got a video bending this but can't seem to get it loaded.  Will post it soon as it does. Reply:Monica,I have the back end off of a1930? fuel truck bed it is 48 wide 36tall 20 deep.Back side is 2 doors I would like to put drawers in it and wheels under to use as tool storage. I have was thinking of some other way to store stuff in it like one side peg board on slides.
Reply:Old Doug, would love to see that when you get it together.  Sounds like a neat project.  Do you have your drawer slides yet?  The 48" is gonna to be a wide span so the drawers will have to be good and solid in the middle.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand
Reply:Hi All sorry to hi-jack this thread but it shows my complaint very well. This site has a very easy way to attach pictures to you posts but it is not used by some. You may upload pictures dirrectly from you computer to the post using the attach file option.  Just click on the paperclip down arrow and it brings up another screen where you select your file and you can upload there.  Just make sure your pictures are the right size I resize to 1200 X 1000 or near that.  See attached for more info. Its a bummer when your post a project and use photobucket and in a second it removed. For anyone who wants to see you project and maybe to help them do the same project not having the pictures stinks.  Sorry my 2 cents.have funTom Attached Images
Reply:Yeah I've started attaching pics on forums now.  Often I upload the same pic to several sites.  It's easier to control content for the long term through one link, especially if I leave a site through inactivity.  I will always edit my photo host, but not always an individual USER CP account on a forum, least in my case.  This is the first time Ive out run my bandwidth.Anyway, my rub here is the EDIT button goes away very soon and I cannot go back to my post to upload attachments and clear out the ugly blank pic.  Maybe I'll put together a page for my projects and lump them all together.  Then I'll run that link through my sig.  Right now though I'm gonna go outside and work on my drawers some more.Last edited by Monica; 09-29-2011 at 10:58 AM.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand

Reply:Got a few bends today after marking and cutting the corners.  The nut and bolt assembly is extremely inefficient. Attached ImagesLincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand
