I have my R57 idler apart to see if I can figure out why it is not idling up, and there is one thing I am not clear on.When I put 9V on the solenoid, it pulls in like its supposed to, but does not pop right out after I remove the voltage. Is this correct? I cleaned it real good, the plunger shaft and the bore, and the plunger spring is good, just wondering if that is how they work.thanks!skip
Reply:I'd say that slow drop-out is typical on a solenoid without a heavy return spring. It takes a few seconds for residual magnetism to drain off.Good Luck
Reply:Go to the Lincoln website below and find the .pdf - IM 179 G.1 idler instructions. The delay you described is to have time to change welding rods before idle down. It can be adjusted to suit your preferences. Another .pdf referencing vacuum idlers is # IM 117 B, altho that is the early style.http://content.lincolnelectric.com/p...S/obsomenu.pdfOnly when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
